Well I would have liked him to just say this part - quoting football-italia.net.

"At that point there was a need to release a midfielder and when the opportunity to sell Zanetti arrived we took it.

“It was also our last chance to make some money from his sale as he would have been available on a free next summer.

“We had to do something economically as a sale also means one less salary to pay.”

And left out this part

Zanetti signed a three-year deal with the Viola yesterday, terms which he had unsuccessfully asked Juventus for.

“We couldn’t give him a new contract like that,” Secco revealed. “We invested a lot of money on Felipe Melo in that role and, given his age, he is the future.
The Bianconeri official also underlined the point that Zanetti’s personal wishes were an important factor in his switch south.

“He asked us to be sold,” added Secco. “And we don’t keep any players who are not 100 per cent sure that they want to stay.”
Which apparently pissed off Zanetti since he said this:

“They lacked respect. I heard Secco saying some things that I really must rebut. He claimed I had asked for a first team place, but I have never in my life requested such a thing.

“My guarantees are hard work on the pitch. Secco said I demanded a three-year contract, which is another absurd lie.

“How could I request a three-year deal when we never even discussed my contract? I didn’t speak to Secco at all.”

The Bianconeri director also noted that selling Zanetti for £1m was a bargain, considering he had so many injury problems.

“I don’t think I was the only one to be injured at Juventus in the last year,” retaliated the 32-year-old.

“If that was the problem, they could have offered me a one-year pay-as-you-play contract.”

And its true Gigli was the worst one in the Dago saga, which is another problem since it should be Secco dealing with the transfer negotiations, not Gigli.
#1) Ok.....................So, he was telling the truth that Juventus couldn't or wouldn't give him a 3 year contract, and he was stating the obvious that Melo is part of the future.

#2) That last comment basically falls in line with Ferrara's thinking, that if you don't want to be here and give 100%, then he doesn't want you on the team.

I still fail to see what parts of that article that quotes Secco is so bad.

Oh, and one more thing.

Where in that interview did Secco make mention of Zanetti's age and injuries????????

I don't know, maybe its just me, but I'm getting a little sick and tired of this constant bashing of the Board of Directors who in 3 short years have.

#1) Gotten Juventus out of Serie B, to the point where they are now a legitmate threat in both Serie A and the Champions League

#2) Have shown more dedication and trust to the young players than at any time during the last 5 years of the previous Triad

#3) have been able to balance the books and show a profit for the first time in a very long time, considering that they are playing in a sub standard stadium with little sources of revenue stream

#4) Are on the verge of a first in Serie A. A brand new, state of the art stadium befitting a team such as Juventus, which will only serve to bring in even more revenue.

I really don't know what more people could possibly ask for, considering where this team was 3 years ago.

Damn, I've been living under a rock. I had no idea we sold Zanetti. This comes as a bit of surprise...I feel bad for the guy really. He's been very loyal and a real professional. I'm really sad to see him go.

Few things...

1- Reading both Secco's statement and Zanetti's statement, it's pretty clear that Zanetti didn't want to leave but it was our mang decision. And what a decision, this has to be the most retarded foolish decision I've seen since sometime now.

2- Zanetti was pure class an example to every player out there. Giving his everyting on the pitch and never caused a single trouble whether he was selected in the 1st 11 or not. So show some respect ffs.

3- It's amazing how some of you still defends our mang acts towards our players, specially when it comes to the extension, from Del Piero to Buffon, Nedved, Trezeguet, Camoranesi etc... really amazing.

4- No one is saying Secco is a devil or our mang should be shot, but it's about players being treated unfairly. Much morel like Reggina or Wigan type of mang.

5- When you wish Zanetti the worst of luck to Fiorentina and insult him but wish the best to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Inter, well, this says pretty much everything.

Last but not least, I wish Cristiano all the best for being a classy faithful player. I know he will do well because he's one great player.

All the best Cristiano.

Totally agreed & number two will definitely serve the club well considering the svaings that will be made without having to splash huge amounts of cash on new players.

I could only hope that the board takes a hard look at its marketing strategies & focus on promoting Juventus on a global scale.

So in other words, Rab, Zanetti would rather stay here, sit on the bench, and collect 2 million dollars this year while playing very little, rather than have the opportunity to play for his hometown team, get significantly more playing time, and get the 3 year contract that he was looking for?
