Confirmation, Udinese game ultimately caused his departure:

"Did we receive any signals before the last week of mercato? We had clear signals before the Udinese game that he would stay. Was Mendes working since June to find him another club? True, but with different signals. Meaning, that nothing was becoming concrete." - Che Rubini

Hail to that "technical decision," thanks Tek, whatever gameplay that was in second half, and the subs.
I very much doubt they realized that so late. Most probably they thought nothing would happen so late in the window, this I could believe.

On the other hand, it seems like they had Kean in their hand for some time - just notice how quickly the club wrapped him up and brought back here.

I'd assume the club would spend a bit more if Ronaldo left earlier. Perhaps we would have pushed out McKennie to land Tchouameni, whom apparently Allegri likes a lot. Maybe we'd have went for Vlahovic. Other than that, the plan from the very beginning was to let Ronaldo go and downsize the wage bill. It looks like Elkann wanted it and Allegri was 'at best' indifferent to CR7's stay. Maybe even Max wanted the sale, to start afresh with players he could control more and build around them. As Max himself pointed out today, Ronaldo would have left next year anyway, so building around him wouldn't make too much sense. At least from his point of view.

Non-sequitur as usual. Could be that nothing was becoming concrete because no clubs were willing to take him before the last week of the window. City wanted him only because they failed to get Kane in the last week of Mercato and then United jumped in because of City.
That's a lotta hoops you're jumping through and lotta remote likelihoods you're grabbing.

Utd making that level of uber high investment just to spite City. That's something.

There was an entire athletic article on how ronaldos exit went down. He was flirting with other clubs dating back to last summer but juve genuinely didn’t think he would be leaving. He peaced as soon as another club showed concrete interest and unfortunately for us it was the last couple of days of the window.

The last week of the Mercato says a lot about him. Egotistical and selfish. I suppose that’s what got him to where he is. I can’t tolerate a player disrespecting this great club the way he did. I hope he enjoys Manchester

Take him for his footballing attributes which are that he's an amazing goalscorer but a pain integrating him into a team. He'll do well for United but I don't think he'll win any trophies because of Chelsea, City and Liverpool.

As a human I'd never want to interact with him. The Mayorga story scares me because of the NDA she had to sign, the whole thing about the mother of his first kid, I would stay a million miles from him.

We gave the German newspaper editor a soyboy emoji, but Ronaldo very well may be 1% reypeast.

But, i guess redcafe, besides the goal can feel our pain
"The players are just waiting for any chance to pass to Ronaldo instead of taking action themselves and it's hurting us."
