Ranieri Praises Legrottaglie And Boumsong

Claudio Ranieri was happy with his team's display in the 3-1 win over Parma, but insisted that there was more room for improvement.

Second half goals from Cristian Molinaro, Sergio Almiron and Hasan Salihamidzic saw Juventus pick up a solid 3-1 win over Parma, the club Claudio Ranieri rescued from relegation just a few months ago.

"We did well, more than anything in defense, but there are still things we must improve on," said the Juve coach after the game.

"Parma began the better of the two teams, but we did very well to keep them in check. Legrottaglie and Boumsong played very well.

"Then, as the game went on, we looked fresher and stronger than Parma."

"It was very important to get through to the break, and that is why I am very happy with this win," he continued.

"However, we must remain humble, and cognizant of the fact that we must improve."

On Tiago starting the game and putting in a good display, he said: "He is improving. He is a player who knows what to do out there, and will prove his worth. He will be a very important piece in the jugsaw."

Ranieri concluded by sepaking about the upcoming clash against Cagliari.

"The game against Cagliari at the weekend will be a very difficult one," he said. "They will be playing at home, and have just defeated Napoli, so they will be very confident."

Yesterday's game report..

Personally I saw few good points. Infact, the good things were more than the bad ones.
First of all let start with the bad one: Boumsong. Ok I might be well know for not liking him, but still the defence was doing a far much better job with him supporting from the bench. Legro's endless fitness problems is causing us to field him. He was out of position many times and could have easily cost us the game.
The other worrying part is that our team without Del Piero and Nedved is not as creative as it should be. Nedved is 35 and Alex is 33 meaning they won't be able to play all matches. We need a team that can be creative enough without them.
Our centre of the midfield: I've always said that our provisional MVP this season is Zanetti. With him the whole formation and team makes sense. He connects the whole team together. CR must find away to play without him so whenever is needed he can do so, and well.

Back to the good points:
Last night I saw a team that has the agression to win. I saw a team that is not scared to attack.. I saw a team that has THE SPIRIT for fighting for the scudetto and the CL. A team that wants to win. We might not be the best squad in the world and we might not have the best management in the world and even more we might not have the best coach in the world BUT as a unit we make sense. Claudio Ranieri must be doing something really right at trainnings and before matches because our players are coming in with the perfect mentality. Something Capello doesn't know shit about. Similarly to Livorno's game, we kept on the pressure for a long period. We did not lose hope on scoring. I don't agree that our midfield was over by Parma's. We controlled the game and that is thanx to our midfield. I cannot say that we have controlled the game perfectly, rather we did a good job. There were some passing mistakes but all in all it was another step forward.

Buffon: Made few nice saves, he was very close to saving the PK. 7
Zebina: Another decent perfromance from Zebina. I would like to see the PK again I wasn't concentrating on the TV during the replay. Was it a hand ball or did he push the player? Anyway leaving that aside he did alright, 6.5
Andrade: Was very good. SOLID. In addition no terrible fouls. 7
Legro: He is a decent deffender. If only he can stay healthy and fit. Anyway, no mistakes during his half of the game. 6
Chiellini: Maybe his performance today wasn't anything spectacular. But the more he plays the more i feel we are not missing out on Zambrotta. He might not be as offensive or as craetive as Zambrotta., but he is young and he is REALLY GOOD. He also has lovely crosses. He assisted the crucial goal of the game with a wonderful cross. 7
Salihamidizc: Not his best of games, he was alright though. He might deserve a lower rating if the team did not win. But the team won and he scored the sealing goal. He also kept the tempo going on. 6.5
Nocerino: He wasn't very concentrating but worked alot. I seem to feel that he prefers to play on the side rather than in the middle.. 6
Almiron: Decent game for Almiron, not as good as the Livorno game though. Scored a nice freekick. 6.5
Tiago: His first official full game for Juve. I don't want to be harsh on him because it is his first official full game in the Italy. Never the less, he looked alright. Although he is not feeling the formation of the team yet, he ran alot and tried to replace that with effort and some creativity. I'll be generous with him 6
Trezeguet: Due to lack of creativity and support from the midfield and especially from Iaquinta. 6
Iaquinta: A weak game for him. Totally out of place mentally. Did not think right inside the field. 5.5

Subs:
Molinaro: Our hero :) he started the goal scoring wave. Very nice header. Played well and looked sharp 7.5
Boumsong: Terrible. 3
Palladino: Wasted a chance, which he created for himself by moving right. He tried. But he wasn't fielded enough for me to rate him. I'll give him a neutral 6 though.

C. Ranieri: Another good game for Mr. Ranieri as a caoch. Read the game right. Fielded a decent team. Rested a good number of players and managed to win an away (kock out) cup game with a convincing result and decent performance. 7.5

It was not a good game for us, as we were outplayed by a mediocre team, who like Livorno, have no offense

Our midfield was owned today, and having most of the starters in from last game (minus Tiago) didnt amount to shit. With all their bad passes and having the ball taken away several times, our defense had lots of work to, and thankfully they did their jobs pretty well, while the offense was invisible because they were getting no service.

We had one chance in the entire first half (Trez shot from Iaquinta), and only a few in the second half that we were lucky enough to convert.

I am concerned about what happens when we play a team with a better midfield and a REAL offense...we are in for some troubles

my ratings-

Buffon 6 - Had to make one save, and lost the pk duel (as always)

Zebina 6 - Faulted on a non-existent penalty, but was solid otherwise

Andrade 6- A more solid game. He played pretty well, and was mistake free

Legrottaglie 6- He had a good first half, but the dude is too fragile...he wont make it through the season

Chiellini 6.5 - Our best defensive player !! He played well on defense, and his attacking play wasnt too shabby either. Assisted on Molinaro's goal with a nice cross

Brazzo 5- Yes, he scored a pinball goal, but was weak the entire game. He had no control of his side of the field, and his lack of accuracy on his passes was apparent. Camo, please comback !!

Almiron 5- Besides his goal, his worst game in a Juve shirt. Most of his passes either missed or were intercepted, he had no control the center of the field, and all but one of his shots was way off target. I expected more from him.

Tiago 4.5- The biggest waste of 14 million dollars that I can think of. What did he do right today ? Absolutely NOTHING !! He cant pass, shoot, control the center of the field...hell, even the yellow card he received was for a piss-poor foul. I see no promise in him

Nocerino 5 - He did what he could playing out of position, and it wasnt enough today. Put him back in the center, and lock Tiago in the mens room during the game

Trezeguet 6- He wasnt given any service, barely missed on his only chance....I was impressed that he came back to help the middies on a few occasions

Iaquinta 5.5 - Like Trez, he got no service, but on his only attempt, he takes a shot from an impossible angle, instead of doing the right think and crossing the damn ball !!

Molinaro 6 - He gets a 6 because he scored, and was played out of position...did nothing else positive

Boumsong 5.5- "stumbles" is just a mistake waiting to happen, and even though he made no glaring mistakes today, he had some bad positioning that better offenses would expose

Palladino - not in long enough to rate

Ranieri 6- I will give him credit for fielding Buffon, and an almost full-strength squad...even though they were poor today, they were lucky enough to make the most of their few chances...tougher days are ahead
I dont agree about tiago tbh. I thought yeh in he first half, he wasnt playing too well but in the second half he really got into it and played effectively. And Almiron, played an ok game not his worst game though. And a lot of people here agree.

I understad your annoyance, but winning 3-1 surely means we done somthing right. We were missing Camo, Nedved, Del Piero, Zanetti, Criscito. Key players who make a difference in their departments, so i think our overall performance was good.

Vinn...

I think Tiago wasn't that bad, sure he's not performing like Almiron, but I believe he'll perform soon, he's got it all. he just needs to adapt.

I'm not really sure what you guys see in Tiago tbh. I didn't see yesterday's game but the guy is an average midfielder. If it was up to me there's no way he would ever push Almiron, Zanetti or even Nocerino out of my starting lineup.

imo i think he has the potential to be better than almiron but atm he is not playing at his best.

Ranieri enjoys Tardini return

Claudio Ranieri has spoken of his delight after a winning return to old side Parma in Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia tie.

The Old Lady’s superb start to the campaign continued as they brushed aside the Ducali 3-1 just days after demolishing Livorno 5-1 in their first game back in the top flight.

“In the first 20 minutes, Parma played very well,” the ex-Chelsea tactician stated in his post-match Press conference.

“They pressed us, but we stayed alert and when they tired in the second half we took advantage. The important thing was to get through to the next round, but we must always look to improve.”

It was a satisfying visit to the Stadio Tardini where Ranieri delivered Serie A survival against all odds last term and an enjoyable night for the Roman boss.

“I will always wish the club and the Ghirardi family well and be grateful to them just as I am for my experience at Cagliari when nobody recognised me as a Coach yet.”

The Old Lady must wait for the New Year to host Empoli in the last 16 as the games become two-legged affairs on Jaunary 23 and 30.

He was average for Chelsea and played for a powerhouse in a weak league in France. Hard to judge him. He has a lot of good qualities, he is just not a great player. I think he is a good roster guy who would be utilized well throughout the course of a season. I certainly don't think he could ever be more important to us that Zanetti, Nocerino or Almiron. Nocerino is the only CM we had that has potential to be great. The others are just really good. Tiago is just average with the potential to be good.

Maybe he could be better than Almiron. I initially thought he was going to be, but Almiron has exceeded my expectations. Tiago hasn't even met them yet. I think the Tiago fans are very loyal, but you guys are overrating him. He could be good, but never great enough to start for a team like we will be in the near future. If calciopoli never happened, he could never hang with our squad. Almiron or Zanetti might have been able to and Nocerino would be a staple of the team for sure.

That is the main reason I want to see Nocerino start as many games as possible as a DM. The dropoff from Zanetti to Nocerino is so miniscule, but the potential is so great. We could have a Gattuso by mid-season guys. I don't want to waste that chance. Every midfield needs a destroyer.

Zanetti has always been a good roster player, lets not act like he is everything to this team. He has done what he has always done... been there when we needed him. Let's start Zanetti in the biggies and sub him in late next to Nocerino to secure a lead, but let's not keep wasting Nocerino on the wing or worse, not playing him.

We are building for the future right now. And as long as we aren't playing guys who are struggling to fit in or are not good (Boumsong, Zebina, Tiago, Salihamidzic (in M)), we don't risk losing games. We have a good problem here, but we need to take the big picture into account.

We need Quaresma. Palladino will take some more time.

He brings no creativity. We really lack that in our squad.

C. Ranieri: Another good game for Mr. Ranieri as a caoch. Read the game right. Fielded a decent team. Rested a good number of players and managed to win an away (kock out) cup game with a convincing result and decent performance. 7.5

I disagree that it was a nice game. We were controlled by an average at best Parma team for 70 minutes
The exact formula that makes it a nice game, being owned and winning 3-1. Gives pleasure to my eyes. It upsets the opponent, their fans and you.

Vinman was never wrong, Tiago and Iaquinta are flops no matter what they do. Ranieri is a loser that will ruin Juve no matter what.

Weren´t you calling for Ranieri´s head last week though?

Actually, he also saved a penalty vs. Bari.
exactly, hes not that bad in penalties and even though he was it doesn't freaking matter. Its not like you expect the keeper to make the save! We have the best keeper in the world and still its not satisfying enough
