Pathetic performance from the Old Lady side.......

Watching 90min of this game was really sad. I was trying to find which player I should pick from our side to be the man of the match. Seems our players taking this "Coppa" as walking in the park.

They should understand that we(Fans) care about this trophy as much as the others, tho all of us will choose CL and Serie A over this, but this doesn't mean we should give it away. atleast thats what I saw in this game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buffon-Should have done better in the 2nd goal. Anyhow I didn't expect lot from him. Welcome back Super-man. 5.5

Pess-Wasn't trying hard, tho he wasn't Focusing 100% on the game he did better than the others....not to forget his goal. that was superb! 6

Kovac-Did couple of mistakes, Seems he didn't sleep well. and should have covered better in the 2nd goal. 5

Thuram-He takes some blame for the 1st goal as he allowed the player to take the shot. He seemed little bit slow in the 1st half, 2nd half was much better for him. Hope he'll do better on Sunday. 5.5

Balz-This kid somehow entertained me today, he was looking fresh moving all around. He combined well with Adrian. 6

Blasi-was invisible in the 1st half....He saved us couple of times in the 2nd half. atleast he did better than his prev matches. 6

Gianni-Another weak Performance by the ex-Lazio man. Subs him by the Puma man was a good thing. 5

Mutu-Some of you might now give him some credits for the goal or calling him the man of the match, But apart from that lucky goal, I saw him doing lot of mistakes(Passin, Crossing). Anyhow, Seems Adrian is getting more confident day by day, thats a good thing. 6

Dp-Didn't have a good match....his 1st half was better. In the 2nd half he kinda disappeard for a while. Hope he'll get his head back. 5.5

Zala-Slow, can't pass, can't control the ball. He was really bad tonight. 4

Zlatan- I expected him to move the game little bit more after he entered but he wasn't really in action. But Ofcoarse better than Marcelo. 5.5

Neddy-Was trying hard with his crosses and he was running alot. Was a good thing to put him on the field after we were 2-1 down. 6

Emerson-Probably the best player in our team(2nd half) that was a good move from Cap to put him on the field. He did what he was supposed to do. 6.5
Really great review man! I watched the game 2nd half through CCTV5 (good thing this exists). I think 2-2 is a great result in an away-match in a cup. We have the edge in the replay at Delle Alpi. Although we had most posession my feeling of the match was that Fiorentina was the better team. Better passings in their counter-attack & better defending. We should be happy with 2-2.

Prandelli applauds 'lucky’ Juve Friday 2 December, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cesare Prandelli believes that Juventus were fortunate to salvage a 2-2 draw in last night’s Coppa Italia match. "They were lucky," he said.

Juventus did well to come back from 2-0 down in Florence, but were helped by a fluke equaliser by Adrian Mutu, whose intended centre looped into the net.

"They are a great team," said the Fiorentina Coach. "But they were also lucky that Mutu’s cross made it 2-2."

Bad luck aside, Prandelli was happy with his team’s showing, given that he rested key players and the Viola did not disgrace themselves against Sunday’s Serie A opponents.

The Gigliati scored through Valeri Bojinov and Giampaolo Pazzini before Gianluca Pessotto and Mutu restored parity.

"I am happy, though," added the 47-year-old former Parma tactician. "I am pleased because we put on a good performance."

Juve Coach Fabio Capello agreed that his side were fortunate with their second goal, but was also pleased that the first-choice players that came on in the second half – Emerson, Pavel Nedved and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – made an immediate impact.

"We were lucky," confessed Don Fabio. "We played pretty well in the first half as well, although we weren’t as solid as we should have been.

"Fiorentina played well, while we were handed a touch of good fortune when Mutu scored," he continued.

"But we came to give it a proper go and decided that our best players would get a half – and they did."

Unfortunately the game had to be suspended for 35 minutes after tear gas, that police had been using outside the ground to deal with crowd disturbances, floated into the stadium and on to the pitch.

"I hope that those people’s names aren’t even mentioned," continued Capello, referring to the trouble-makers. "I’m not trying to underestimate the problem, but I’d just rather not afford them any publicity."
Prandelli says we were lucky....

I wanna say that Fiorentina were lucky that the ref and line judge weren't wearing their glasses...because if they were , they would have clearly saw that the second Viola goal was not only offsides, but a handball as well....

I don't understand Prandelli, it must be about giving confidence to his team, we dominated them. If he talking about Mutu's goal, then yes fair enough, but as Vin has already mentioned, Fiorentina's goal should'nt of stood as the ball clearly controlled by the arm.

Wasn't offside at all,I think you are wrong about that,Blasi was the last man
at the moment of the pass, for sure, and the referee was in the line of the event....but it was a handball 100%,so the referee was wrong.

Yep. :agree:

And while he didn't have one of his better games for us, interestingly enough he was the last touch before each of the goals we scored.

They did get the onsides call right with this one. And while they clearly missed the upper-arm ball handling by Pazzini, it was difficult for me and the RAI announcers to make that out without the slow-mo replay. So I can't fault the ref too much on that one.

Perhaps the ref can chalk that one up to tear gas...

I saw the match, and i also think we really sucked.. anyway, Balzaretti(spell) was good, and when emerson came in he ruled the midfield..

anyway, it is a copa match so, no big deal imo.. and it is a fine resultat to bring with us to delle alpi...

I don't blame the referee,it was really hard to make the evaluation of the situation.

Fiorentina vs. Juventus 2-2

In the first-leg match of Coppa Italia last sixteen tie, Juventus earn a 2-2 draw at the Franchi stadium. The first half ends with Fiorentina in advantage thanks to Bojinov’s goal. After the interval, the match is suspended for 25 minutes. Back on the pitch, Pazzini doubles the advantage, then Capello’s side get in control of the match and achieves the draw with goals by Pessotto and Mutu.

The news of the days is Buffon’s comeback after the three-month stop due to the shoulder surgery. The other news in the line-up is Balzaretti, positioned in the midfield on Blasi’s right, with the latter being proposed again as wing defender. In the first few minutes of the game, Bojinov turns up but his finishes are wide of target. Juventus get dangerous on 7’ minutes with Balzaretti who drives on the right flanks, the ball gets to Del Piero in the midfield but he’s anticipated by Ujfalusi. On 15’ minutes, Del Piero tries a left-footed from the edge of the penalty area but it ends beyond the goal line. One minute later, Zalayeta heads the ball, following Mutu’s free kick, but Frey saves. On 21’ minutes, it’s Fiorentina’s turn to attack with Jorghensen who serves Pazzini from the left but the striker’s deflection drives the ball out. Capello’s side gets dangerous after about thirty minutes into the first half time: Del Piero’s free kick is deflected by a defender, Zalayeta grabs the ball and drives a powerful shot who hits the crossbar. To follow, Mutu’s free kick is countered by Frey. Fiorentina finally breaks the tie: on 38’ minutes, Maggio drives down on the right flank, serves Ujfalusi, the ball gets to Bojinov who beats Buffon with a right-footed shot (1-0). Bojinov is dangerous again on 42’ minutes when his drive singes the crossbar. In the final minutes, Vieira’s powerful right-footed kick from the distance ends high over the bar.

After the interval, the game re-starts for only two minutes, then the referee has to suspend it for the fumes of the tear-gas used by police outside of the stadium to quell some trouble between the two sides’ supporters. After about 25 minutes, the second half can start again and Fiorentina take the double advantage after 5 minutes with Pazzini (2-0). Juventus do not give up and hit back. On 8’ minutes, Capello’s side reduces the gap thanks to a fantastic goal scored by Pessotto who beats Frey with an unstoppable right-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area (2-1). The Bianconeri coach makes three substitutions at the same time: the goalscorer, Giannichedda and Zalayeta make way for Emerson, Nedved and Ibrahimovic. And it’s the latter who, after 16 minutes, served by Nedved, tries the shot but the ball gets out. On 20’ minutes, Mutu’s free kick is intercepted by Del Piero, Ibrahimovic deflects it into goal but the referee nullifies it for offside of the forwards. Four minutes later, there it comes the draw: Mutu drives a cross shot from the left, the ball follows a strange trajectory that misleads Frey, it hits the post and gets in (2-2). Fiorentina, who are no longer dangerous after the second goal, attempt on goal with Bojinov, Buffon saves. Juventus continue to build up the game until the end but the result doesn’t change. The second leg match is scheduled on January, 11th in Turin.

Capello: “Good match”
Fabio Capello comments on the 2-2 earned in Florence for the Coppa Italia last sixteen tie match: “It’s been a good match, played between two teams that wanted to win. Both of them played well and made the most of the chances created”. He is asked about Buffon’s comeback and the three substitutions made in the second half: “Gigi didn’t have to do many saves, as for the substitutions they had already been planned”

Buffon is back

'I’m sorry that yesterday’s night display of a good initiative, the banner against racism and symbolic five minutes delay, even saw the match suspended. I hope that Sunday will go for the better’. Buffon’s return after injury happened in a complicated night, and Gigi can’t refrain from being sorry for it; speaking of football and about the match versus Fiorentina, though, the bianconeri’s number one shirt finds a nice mood again. 90 minutes of Thursday’s night gave important signs about his recovery: 'I’d lie if I told that last night I felt like the last game before injury. After months of stop it’s hard to come back to the field: you almost feel lost, threw in an atmosphere that you’re no longer familiar with. If on top of recovery time, we count also summer vacations, I wasn’t playing an official game for five months and I have to admit that starting again is not easy’.

However performance by Gigi was positive, but his presence on the pitch next Sunday is still uncertain. 'I don’t know if I’ll be playing the championship; maybe I’ll be back to the goal line in Vienna for Champions League. I already spoke of it with the coach: yesterday’s supposed to be a game of fitting. 'We’re not in a hurry, though: my substitute so far, did a great job. Sure Juventus have no goalkeeper’s problem’.

Actually in this season bianconeri can present a wide and skilled list of players, as demonstrated in this Italian Cup’s game. 'In yesterday’s second half Emerson, Nedved and Ibrahimovic went in the game and changed it. Not only we found the equalizer, but you could see from the team’s proper ball handling and alarm among opponents, that three massive players went in’. Substitutions made by Capello in the restart show how Juventus consider Italian Cup an important objective: 'Absolutely and then against an opponent like Fiorentina it’s right to commit completely. I believe that revitalizing a competition like the Italian Cup would be important for all our interest group’.
