We were lucky that it is :gsol: only :gsol: 9 million Euros.

But the bad thing is that we sent Marchisio and Giovinco on loan to get him. OK, Giovinco really needs some experience but Marchisio seems readier than Almiron.

Then again, even here we were lucky it is only a loan. I will be very upset if Marchisio and Giovinco don´t find space in our squad next season as they seem the best youngsters we produced since a long time.

No he is not an average footballer, he is a really bad footballer. He does not pass the ball, he kicks it away. If he intends to pass it he send it either laterally or backwards. He does not run, he does not follow his marker, he does not know how to defend, he does not know how to make zonal coverage. He is lazier than Riquelme and he thinks he is the new Veron.
Spot on, it is so painful watching him

Man - watching the game yesterday made me sick!! We played completly SHIT. I cannot say any of our plyers played decent. I knew from what was happening that there was no way we would score form an open play move. Almiron is really bad at dispossesing the ball. He always fails or fouls. For a guy who is supposed to pass well - he surely sucked tits!

I saw very little of the game; - It's a good job my computer kept crashing. It looks like I didn't miss anything. We've got our work cut out for us for the return leg, on the 16th January.

I'm sorry, but this isn't spot on whatsoever. Almiron was nowhere near as terrible as he was last night when he was at Empoli. During the first few matches of this season, including the friendlies he played, Sergio was working hard and making those accurate long balls he became famous for at Empoli. During the past two seasons there, Almiron was top two in assists and made player of the week several times on Football Italia. I don't know about you, but a "really bad" footballer does not lead Empoli to higher than usual positions on the table and is part of Serie A teams of the week.

I highly doubt many people here paid any attention to Almiron before he came to Juventus. Too many people here are acting like Almiron was always as bad as the Almiron last night, which frankly isn't the case whatsoever and it truly looks foolish. But of course.. if you're a new player at Juventus and you don't perform on the couple chances you get, fans will turn their back on you without any remorse. If we continue acting in such a way, and our beloved manager doesn't even field a player such as Tiago in meaningful matches no matter what he does, we will have trouble attracting world class talent. From the time with Capello and now with Ranieri, I don't know why young foreign talents would want to play for this side anyway.

Andy, the keyword in your post is "was". He was this and was that, after the pre-season friendlies, Almiron came on the pitch and added nothing. He started against Empoli and we all saw what he did. I am not sure you saw because this is unacceptable. Why would one keep on giving chances to player that is hurting the team instead of not even doing anything? Only because of what he did two years ago?

Ranieri: Juve blew it!

Claudio Ranieri has warned his Juventus players they “missed their chance” to earn a first team place in their Coppa Italia debacle.

The Coach fielded a second string side for the 2-1 defeat at Empoli on Thursday evening, as midfielders Sergio Almiron and Tiago Mendes among others were very disappointing.

“I didn’t expect to see a well-oiled machine, but I did want them to run so hard they turned the turf into mud,” said Ranieri.

“Empoli were also reshuffled, but they did all the running. It was a missed opportunity. I gave some chances and they were not taken. It’s a shame and we’ll have to see if I’ll be giving any more shots.

“When you see a performance like that, you cannot be happy. Now we are set to face a great Atalanta side in a wonderful period of form who are compact and everything is going their way. It’ll be difficult and we must give 100 per cent.”

The warning to Juve’s reserves was crystal clear, as their failure to impress in the Coppa Italia means they have little chance of breaking into the starting XI for Serie A.

They are the only giants not to have any European commitments this term, so in theory they should have put far more effort into the Coppa.

Tiago is said to be the one most at risk of a January transfer, as the £10m summer signing is wanted on loan by Paris Saint-Germain.

“I did not speak about Tiago, I was referring to the whole squad. There were another 10 players out there with him,” assured the tactician.

However, Ranieri lost patience when pressed repeatedly on Tiago’s future by journalists in today’s Press conference.

“Have you seen where we are in the table? Do you think we got there by the grace of God? If the other players are in better shape, then I choose them. I would like to give everyone more chances, but a Coach must be practical and look at the team.”

While the Turin outfit try to band together for the Atalanta game, they fall behind top two Inter and Roma.

“They have not run away with the title. We have to put our foot down and cannot afford to relax. We must stay humble, concentrated and hunger. It is only by playing like that, and hoping the others make mistakes, we can stay close by. I am always positive!”

Zdenek Grygera and Mauro Camoranesi are out injured for the Sunday afternoon game, which will be live on Five.

There will be a minute’s silence ahead of Juventus-Atalanta after two people died in a fire at the ThyssenGrupp AG steel mill in Turin.

I watched the whole game on TV and we sucked big time! The only good thing for the whole 90 minutes was Iaquinta's goal late in the game that can keep our hopes up for the 2nd leg.

Almiron and Tiago were just not up for the game, but I think we shouldn't rush to pass definite judgement on them.

I've seen Tiago perform quite well in Benfica and Lyon in the past, so I think that given due time he will be a very useful player that can add some class to that midfieled.

Almiron was promising at Empoli, but perhaps Juve's shirt is weighing on him too much.
