Messi is no Maradona and never will be. He'll never be as important to his nation as his counterpart was, even though today's Argentina national pool has a much better selection than the whole 80's decade. Get over it, He can't be compared to Maradona, period.

One is a kid raised into a team and a system that took the world by surprise and dominated for several years (Tiki Taka) but will never amount to anything outside of his comfort zone, the other was a God at every team he played in.

One played in a violent era of reckless defending and a tougher game making it a dare for a striker to take on defenders, they needed balls. The other players in a era of everything is a red card, and referees are guardian angels, especially in his case.

Breaking record after record and score a million goals in the weakest era of Football in it's history is still a big achievement but we're left with a sour taste in our mouths. Could he do it back then? Probably not.

Doesn't change the fact he's one of the best there was but sorry, Messi is NO MARADONA.

It's funny that people always talk about how great Argentina's attackers are... but it's their defense that is dominant.

Allowed 2 goals in the entire tournament.

Allowed 3 goals the entire last Copa America.

Allowed only 4 goals in entire World Cup 2014.

Played in 3 straight finals and allowed 1 goal in extra time against Germany.

The fact Argentina hasn't scored in 3 straight major international finals, shows just how overrated the 3 stooges are. (Messi, Higuain, Aguero)

They missed a healthy Di Maria again.

Yep. People laughed when I said Di Maria was the most important player for their attack at WC 2014... but it's true. He stretches the defense, and makes space for Messi and the other attackers to do their thing. He's also the least predictable of their attackers.

Just shows again tonight how important he is for Argentina.
