Are you talking while with the Beatles or on his own?
While "All things must pass" is hands down THE best out of all the Solo albums, I personally wouldn't put him ahead of either Lennon or McCartney, due to the sheer body of work that those two created on their own.
While Paul was definitely geared more towards the Pop vein, John was a little more bluesy and grass roots rock, while George was more introspective.
Ringo just plain sucked on his own
Coolest men in rock:
3) Jim Morrison
2) Johnny Cash
1) Elvis (Sorry, he defined the word cool. Everything that has been done, he did it first.)
Coolest women:
3) Joan Jett (Rock and Roll Badass)
2) Joni Mitchell (Being that brilliant and laid-back is very cool, indeed)
1) Chrissy Hynde (Pretenders), great songwriter and great "Stick up my middle finger at everything, and look good doing it" look.

John Frusciante wouldnt strike me as the coolest guy around, but hes has to be cool just for the fact that he dosent watch the media or read newspapers etc because the negative things 'make him sad'. hehe
Overall id have to say Cobain was the coolest.
