He stood there impatiently as the tiny lane meandered through the forest. No vehicle had passed for the last two hours. Many thoughts ran through his mind. He’s been moving around ever since he was a teenager. After finishing college he chose to spend a year travelling and that’s how it all started. He lost his wallet at a train station and had to endure the indignity of walking the highways and begging for a lift. Well that’s how it seemed like all those years ago but now it was different. Over the years he had met different types of people and the rush of getting to see different places while conversing with a stranger had him hooked.
To all he was a tall gangly fellow with shifty eyes and never to be trusted. His father thought he was mad but his mom understood him well and always wished that he could settle down. Deep down he was a modern day adventurer. Standing at six feet with a slightly built frame he got on well with most truck drivers. Being a hitchhiker is not easy and he had developed skills to help him survive in the game. Presentation mattered and he was careful to portray a cheerful and friendly approach. A debate was always raging in his mind. What would be my next city? Who would be my next ride? He had prepared special tricks on occasions. Whenever he wanted female company he would carry a guitar. Although not particularly gifted musically this always clinched it.

Bummer just when it was getting interesting work calls ….
    Hope this helps Zlatan.

The hitchhiker glances over his shoulder, thinking he heard a car in the distance, and turns back in disappointment. His scraggly beard is overgrown, and scraps of his last meal remain like litter on a dusty landscape. His eyes are sore and swollen from too many restless nights sleeping in gutters and whatever shelter he can find. The pungent odor of sweat and rotting food hangs about him like a cloud.

Several cars pass; the hitchhiker sees their drivers take one glance at him, and as if they can smell him from the safety of their steel sanctuaries, keep driving down the dusty track.

He no longer even remembers how long he’s been wandering for. Days, weeks seem to have passed, but not one person has stopped, even to ask where he’s going. Staring down at his feet as he trudges down the road, he sees the rags that he has called his shoes for so many years. Scraps of stained, mangled cloth hang out, and the elastic bands holding them together are worn and tattered. He doesn’t even feel the searing heat of the ground against his calloused soles.
I can see the man right in front of me

The hitchhiker's hat is battered and worn, and it no longer even serves its purpose of sheltering his head from the harsh sun. As beads of sweat run down his cracked and weathered face, flies swarm around him, but he no longer has the energy to swat them away. Besides, he's grown used to them through the years of wandering in the sweltering heat.

He drags his meager belongings behind him in a worn burlap sack. Apart from a few empty bottles, a stale crust of bread and his potato-sack pillow, he carries very little.

    to be continued (hopefully) ?

The hitchhiker grabs his neck. He feels a lump. Suddenly, he can't breathe. He dies. His last words are "DaJuve, you'll...never....know...."

The reason for putting this as my avatar is to remind myself of what I live for, who I am, and who I stand for, so that whenever I'm posting on these boards, what I say will be worthy of that. Sure, I post junk sometimes, but imagine how bad I'd be if I didn't have this reminder!

"Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how ye ought to answer every man." - Colossians 4:6

The salt in this image refers to biblical times, where salt was a purifier and a preservative...
I'm not gonna get too deep into this discussion, it can get way too heated !!!!

My only comment is that I am Catholic, and I do wear a gold crucifix around my neck. It is a reminder, to me, of how Jesus was crucified so that all my sins in life will be forgiven. I am not offended by your avatar

Thanks Vinman, I'm glad I didn't offend you. Even if all of you guys were offended by it, of course I'd take it down, but God knows the  and that I did it for no other reason than this...

And it also reminds us to the secret of it: that Jesus died because of me, instead of me, for me!

In my religion, that would be considered idol worship.
