No, I'm not talking about soft fouls here that can be ignored. I'm talking about ruthless tackles that are potentially carreer ending. I have been watching La Liga, Serie A, and the Premiership for quite some time and I can assure you that the most violent tackles come from Serie A and the premiership( in the past).
Now, the premiership is a lot more pacy and it's deadly fouls are actually ver rare. In serie A, you're bound to see the game stop for at least 6 or 7 minutes becuase of reckless fouls. I may be wrong ofcourse because I have not been watching football as much as most people here, but from my experience this has been the case. Serie A always has the most stops in the game, the premiership and spanish League are a lot more sound than serie A in that aspect.
My point here is Giovinco will probably thrive against any team in Europe with his skills barring Inter and a few dirty teams in Italy where they are probably instructed to injure a player. Del piero has taken a few serious knocks in his time and let's not forget what injuries have done to his carreer.

Yes, gio is small and probably the smallest person in Seria A. BUT you can not deny him the class that he inevitably possesses. Sure with his size he poses a liability to the team, but how can you waste such a raw talent by only letting him play in less physical matches when he has the ability to turn games with one smart pass/play. i for one would at least, the very minimum, would like to see CR try him more this season so he can either prove us wrong or right. We arent going to know this guys limitations if CR doesnt ever play him, even if its for 20-30 mins. My argument is that if he is so small yet everyone says he possesses such class then why not at least give him a shot, then let fate take its course. If he is too small then the league will show us that, if he is truly the atomic ant then he will survive and become a bright star. He seemed to do well at empoli for 2 seasons, but if it means that we need to change our formation to utilize our next team icon is it worth it? worth the risk? He might be the next DP for us, just in a different position. But if he truly is the jewel everyone makes him out to be then why not take a risk? I am not going to argue anymore about his size, yes he is extremely tiny compared to a materazzi. I have no doubts in your case that if he put on a few pounds it would do wonders for him. I just hope that the ones here that think he is too small for Serie A will at least give him a chance to prove himself, but in order for that to happen CR needs to play him.

The only thing I can say is REALLY watch EPL more closely, they are defenitely more rough. Only Ligue 1 is rougher in the top leagues.
And Serie A having most stops has NOTHING to do with being the most rough, actually is a sign for the opposite. The refs rule foul on the most minor of touches, while it takes a real hard felt knock at times for the ref to stop a game and rule foul in EPL. Please see this clear difference, the italian players in CL and NT allways complain for foul in the slighest of challenges, because they are used to refs who rule foul over slighest things (they have to adjust to another standard, but mainly complain of why someone breezing them wasnt a foul etc). Not exactly a sign the most gunho physical league, just the one that rules the most leniently in terms of fouls (La Liga is worse in that regard).
Regarding Gio, size matters, but not as half as the importance you give it. If the player himself is good enough, he will adapt and punish the stronger players in his own way. He isnt the first or last physically weak player to adapt and cope.

I agree, Serie A players do tend to go down a lot more easilly than other players. This is evident. However, the stops I'm talking about usually result in long term injuries. The defenders in serie A are tough and unlike other leagues, they don't time their tackles very accurately. I don't watch the other leagues very much so I'm just going to have to take your word for it.
As for Gio, my point here is not his size. Del piero is only a few centimetres taller than Gio. My point here is his mass relative to his position on the pitch. If he plays instead of Neddy in Ranieri's formation, he will have to go back and defend on the wings, to do so, he has to be a little physical to be able to push players off the ball, to hold tackles etc.. Del piero plays in a position where mass matters a lot less.
He may adapt to that role but the fact is, that position requires certain physical aspects that Giovinco does not possess at the moment. This ofcourse only counts against physically powerful sides on the wings, ex: Maicon. Imagine Giovinco tustling away with Maicon for the ball, who do you think will win?
I actually think Serie A will top them, just because it has the most strict referees. I mean, an EPL referee will call a foul only when there is blood or broken bones. In Serie A, referees generally call every touch. And you can see that in CL where many players from Italian teams dive and then wonder why no foul is given.
all this bullshit of gio being too small is a load of crap. hes speed and technique would rip apart bigger defenders its stupid to say he is too small as that didnt stop him last year nor has it stopped any other small player. if you havent noticed everything is a free kick in serie a and gio wouldve gotten us many dangerous freekicks in dangerous areas by drawing the foul as he does so well. remember he is 21 and not a child anymore now is the time for him to be playing some of his best football, we can wait any longer. he is not a fragile little girl like most of you think, he is used to getting hacked and tackled badly like most speed and technique based players. look i love nedved but the man is past his prime let gio have a shot. if we dont play him now he will leave, and i would hate to see him go under a coach that plays him then become an amazing player.
, anyone that watched Gio closely last season with empoli will agree with u. The guy was MOM against napoli, roma (where he scored twice home and away), against us in the italian cup and soo many other games. So to think that he's some useless player is just dump. I remember watching him last season and thinking what a huge difference that guy would make to our team if he was just playing for us. Ironically he's with us this season but not getting any playing time thanks to our savior Mr. bean......
