Ranieri: Forza Milan! Saturday 22 December, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Claudio Ranieri has not lost hope of the Scudetto as the Juventus boss will be cheering on Milan this Sunday.

“If I had to choose a derby winner, I am always in favour of slowing down those who are in the lead. At least I admit it with a smile on my face,” said the Bianconeri Coach.

Inter are seven points clear at the top and eight ahead of third placed Juve, but face their biggest test yet in the local derby.

“I have been thinking about the Scudetto since our pre-season training camp at Pinzolo and have never stopped focusing on that even for a second. I have been telling you all this for six months.”

The Turin giants could become the first Serie A team ever to win the title straight after promotion and Ranieri feels they have a very significant advantage over their rivals, especially after Friday’s Champions League draw.

“When you enter the knockout phase of the competition, I think there will be some wonderful and extremely tough games. This should give us an advantage, seeing as we do not play in Europe.

“I hope all the Italian clubs go through – partly because the longer they are in it, the more of an advantage we have!”

Ranieri has experience in this tournament, but was never able to lift the trophy at Chelsea.

“I don’t think any side, except perhaps Milan, can plan for the Champions League. All you need is one week where your stars aren’t in great shape and you gamble it all away.”

Juventus take on Siena this Sunday afternoon and all his players are available except for Mauro Camoranesi and Jorge Andrade.

However, a flu virus has hit both Cristiano Zanetti and Antonio Nocerino, so flop Tiago Mendes could receive another chance.

“I will speak to them in the morning to see how they are. Zanetti is a bit better, but thankfully Tiago is fine and I hope he doesn’t get ill overnight as well.

“Siena are a tough outfit who can clam up, put pressure on you and then go on the break. We must be super concentrated and improve from our performance against Lazio. We have to close 2007 on a high with vitality and determination.”

It has certainly been a special year for one particular Juventus player – captain Alessandro Del Piero.

“Lately he has been always smiling and happy. Since he signed the new contract and became a father to Tobias, he is so relaxed and joyful. Even in training he seems to work better.”

Juventus squad: 1 Buffon, 2 Birindelli, 3 Chiellini, 4 Almiron, 5 Zebina, 6 Zanetti, 7 Salihamidzic, 9 Iaquinta, 10 Del Piero, 11 Nedved, 12 Belardi, 17 Trezeguet, 18 Boumsong, 19 Criscito, 20 Palladino, 21 Grygera, 23 Nocerino, 28 Molinaro, 30 Tiago, 32 Marchionni, 33 Legrottaglie

Ranieri: We Will Sign A Champion, Like Lampard

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri says that the club will only sign a champion in the summer, and has described Frank Lampard as a 'phenomenon. The Bianconeri are having an excellent Serie A campaign and currently sit in third position in the table.

Nevertheless it is widely accepted that the club needs to make two or three top-class signings if they want to restore themselves to the very top of Italian and European football.

“It will be different from the past summer,” said Ranieri, when asked about his plans for the pre-season transfer market.

“We need to identify an individual of outstanding ability who will enable us to make the leap in quality. It is a decision we absolutely cannot get wrong.”

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been heavily associated with a summer move to Turin, with some sections in the Italian media believing that a transfer is as good as done already.

“Lampard is a phenomenon,” stated Ranieri.

“However he plays for Chelsea and I don’t think that Abramovich will allow him to leave because the Italian clubs have restricted economic potential compared to the Spanish and English teams.

“In Spain for example, in the first contract you pay 25 per cent less in taxes. In simple terms it is difficult to compete.”

I'm Aiming High - Ranieri

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri talked about the rivalry with Inter, and believes the team can have big ambitions if it maintains the never-say-die attitude.

zoom - galleria It's time to draw up the balance of the year for coach Claudio Ranieri. His 2007 was undoubtedly memorable, as it marked his return to Italian football after a long (and not always fruitful) experience abroad with the likes of Valencia and Chelsea.

At first, he was appointed as coach of a troubled Parma side, whom he miraculously managed to save from relegation. This feat impressed the Juventus management, who were looking to replace the relatively inexperienced Didier Deschamps as coach, and duly chose Ranieri.

One of the first things he had to deal with was the intense rivalry and bitterness felt towards Inter, the club who replaced them as the main force in Italian football after their relegation in 2006.

"It's natural that the players 'feel' the games against Inter more, because they've felt robbed of something they conquered on the pitch, it's understandable," Ranieri said, "but Inter are a great team now, we have to accept it, they won the last two Scudetti with merit. Well, of course, they were gifted one and won the other on the pitch..."

The coach reveals the great importance attributed by the team to the 1-1 draw obtained against the Nerazzurri back in November, which was also the last game Inter didn't win.

"We obtained a result after coming back from a goal down, it was natural to feel gratified," he continued. "We should not forget where we came from this year: we're working hard, the team never gives up, so I don't want to limit our ambitions. I aim high, then we'll see where we get..."

i'm really pissed. i could shoot him in the head for saying that :(
of course he corrects himself, but how on earth did they win that paper scudetti 'with merit' ??

He was being sarcastic. It was a dig the Inter staff's ultra righteous "holier than thou" attitude towards everybody since farsopoli about the titles.

I noticed they edited the rest: -

"....with the help of the referees!"

:D

Seriously, Serie A last season wasn't worth watching, let alone winning. That Scudetto was just as worthless as the paper one!

Summer market plans

Here the Ranieri list: already ready 30 million Beyond to a defender (Ujfalusi idea), they serve median, trequartista and forward. At june little purchases aimed to you: Van der Vaart, Sissoko, bianchi and the others in the plan in order to win in Italy and Europe. In order now only Almiron, possible departing traveler TURIN, 2 January 2008 - To January not there will be market in entrance to the Juventus. Criscito and Olivera will not come replace to you, the only possibility of an arrival are tied to the eventual loan of Almiron, in order sguarnire the centrocampo. But it would be be a matter of an operation of low profile and to cost zero. Understood them and thoughts of the society they are already revolts to june and the programs evolvono with turn out you of the square of Ranieri. Hour that the qualification in Champions is a goal more concrete than how much it draft to prepare a rose was to beginning championship that can resist the two engagements. But various from the last campaign, in which the budget it has been fragmented between many purchases to scapito of the absolute quality, the next one will be concentrated on one, maximum two large blows.

The CHOICE Of the MODULE - there is to disposition a million some thirty, made it knows the proceeds to you from the cessions and the eventual exchanges. Second and the third certainty is Mellberg, already taken to parameter zero, and I re-enter of Marchisio, two sure ones reinforce for the defense and the centrocampo. Politics of the Juventus are clear: to irrobustire the rear unit with players in contract expiration (a case is Ujfalusi) in order to concentrate the efforts on the others two, above all that one of means. But here managing and trainer is itself finds you of forehead to a tactical dilemma, because on the type of player who will arrive to centrocampo the module will depend. The temptation is that one to head at a trequartista type Van der Vaart or Diego, the fear to abandon the tested 4-4-2 for which it is more works them like Lampard that but it has I engage impossible.

IT IS ATTEMPTED MEDIAN - a decision has not been still taken, in attended of developments. The Juve in fact is trying also an median one of substance, of which it would have need in both cases. The first name is that one of Sissoko, already in top to desires of Ranieri the slid summer. Then the Liverpool wanted 30 million euro, but it is an appraisal reorganized from I use that Benitez lately is making of the 22enne francomalinese: according to blow it could be just he. The alternatives are more expert players like Albelda, than the technician it knows from the times of Valencia, or Xabi Alonso, anch' he of the Liverpool.

PALLADINO and bianchi- On the choice of the module for the next season the future of Palladino, destined depends also in a case to replace Nedved on the left and in the other still going in park bench (and to this point it would begin to become a waste also for the Juve that has various demands). Because in attack, where Giovinco can re-enter, not there is the same necessity that to centrocampo, even if Turin follows with attention the Amauri case, not forgiveness of Huntelaar eye, already followed the slid year, and sondano the land for Rolando bianchi
