Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed that Giorgio Chiellini will not join Manchester City this summer.

The highly-rated defender was expected to be the latest Serie A addition to Sven Goran Eriksson’s squad, but the Turin outfit have insisted they will not sell him.

Ranieri has also stated that there will no more new arrivals in Turin this summer as he is content with the current squad at his disposal.

The Old Lady has been paired with several players, including Gabriel Heinze of Manchester United and Fernando Meira of Stuttgart, with pundits claiming their defence needs tightening.

“We will not be making any new signings,” said Ranieri. “Many think we need a defender, but I consider our transfer campaign over.

“I would have been surprised had Chiellini decided to leave, but I am not surprised that he will stay.”

Juventus face Inter and Napoli in the Birra Moretti Trophy tournament at the Stadio San Paolo tomorrow evening, with Ranieri insisting that fitness is the key.

“I understand the fans’ expectations, but I consider this just another step towards our best condition,” he said.

“These tournaments are important, but what really counts is the championship and the big match with Inter on November 4. “It doesn’t matter if we aren’t at our best now, but that we are fit for August 26 when the new season gets up and running.”

Juventus were defeated by Newcastle United and Hamburg in recent weeks and were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland last Saturday.

With that statement from our manager, we are now officially a second rate side. Forget about relegation or other problems we have had in the last like losing 1 world class player after another and replacing with average Joe.

When your manager starts talking about 1 game being more important than the rest in public then youare second rate. Absolutely no way would Ancelotti, Spalletti, Ferguson. Weneger, Mourinho, Benitez, Schuster, Rijkard or any top manager come out and say the most important thing is to be ready to face a rival.

No More Signings, Surprises Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri has endorsed Giorgio Chiellini staying at the club, and believes that Juventus have done their business this summer.

Chiellini was ever so close to completing a move to Manchester City before the Juventus bosses decided otherwise. The player himself agreed to stay, and Ranieri isn't surprised.

He insists that nobody will be joining or leaving the club, despite suggestions that Juve continue to chase a centre-half.

"We will not be making any new signings," said Ranieri. "Many think we need a defender, but I consider our transfer campaign over.

"I would have been surprised had Chiellini decided to leave, but I am not surprised that he will stay."

As for taking on Inter and Napoli in the Birra Moretti Trophy on Wednesday, Ranieri said: "I understand the fans’ expectations, but I consider this just another step towards our best condition.

"These tournaments are important, but what really counts is the championship and the big match with Inter on November 4.

"It doesn’t matter if we aren’t at our best now, but that we are fit for August 26 when the new season gets up and running."

The decision to not sign a defender could have a lot to do with the fact that any player capable of improving Juventus will cost them at least 15 million euros, if not more. That might be reason enough for the bosses to decide otherwise, but will it be for the fans?

dramatic statement denco. I don"t see anything wrong in C.R sentence. He first said that what counts the most is the championship and then he said there is an important match against inter. Let me remind that inter was the champion last year.

I hope he gets a chance, but I think Ranieri is rather going for Grygera or Chiellini at the centre back. Maybe he doesn't want to put too much pressure on him, and starts with letting him play occasionally as a sub.

Errr what!?

C.R. says beating Inter and the Championship priorities - what is wrong with that!?

What do you think he should say!? Let's win the Coppa and make sure to beat Siena? I want Juve to beat Inter and take Serie A, good luck to you though whatever your objectives are..

Stupid. Some ppl just want to gripe at Ranieri with no foundation at all. Buffon is happy with him - enough for me..

those kind of statements should come from fans and in forums but a manager should never make such statements. If inter's heads are not swollen already, this will put them into orbit.

Anyways I have read too much rubbish on here to know such trash from our manager would be applauded.

You ask a sensible person like Dp and he will tell you its another game even though inwardly he probbaly wants to beat Inter more than anyother team, nut he would never really it in public.

Do you hear Mourinho saying he wants to beat Manchester United? Big clubs are not interested in whats going on to their counterparts inly when they feel pressure they start talking about them constantly.

But i have been bored to tears about Inter on here, and to read the board and now the manager talk about Inter like its the reason we are in SerieA is grating.

Ranieri proves everytime that he is small fry and until he starts to act like he is in the big time, he would take us down with him.

Why do you thinmk he was replaced by Mourinho? Because he is small time, he not and probably never be ready to dance witht the big boys and coming out with such stupid statements just enhances his idiocy.

You expect Torino's manager to mark out Juventus as the game to win cos that is what they aim for as they are never gonna win scudetto

Lazio are looking at Roma's fixture becos they are the underdogs

Ancellotti has not won scudetto in 4 years now but you would never hear him say they are looking forward especially to Inter or Juvenus match

Lippi and Capello with Trapatoni before them would never come out with such nonsense.

Capello went to Real Madrid and at the time, even he thought it was an empty boast, but he said give me 60 days and i will make them into champs, he was helped along the way by Barcelona and the rest but he won the league.

At no time was he talking about Barcelona being the game to win cos he is a winner.

Someone ought to shut him up but the whole board seems to be full of circus clowns.

I don't care if he says this is the season to consolidate but never single out a team as it shows weakness in your character and it says you have an inferiority complex

Ranieri always sounds like he doesn't believe in the scudetto. The enthusiasm never comes through when you talk about being ready for August 26th. Why cant any match with anyone be treated like an opportunity? Instead he just sounds like hes resigned to aiming for nothing more than 4th place. And the only match we really want to win is against Inter. Sure, the results dont matter in pre season friendlies, but if you're trying to tell me the losses taught you nothing when you say we dont need any more signings. It actually leaves me wondering how much we do need one: that of a new coach.

Do you have to guess how we would react if he says that the Inter game is only a game where three points can be won or lost?
Ranieri knows how important the Inter games are for the fans and he also knows what is at stake in the league. You can call him a lot but he is a clever man who knows how to steer the media.
I wouldn't be surprised if this all a tactic to lower the prices of players he wants.

It's nothing personal against him. Actually he's quite an affable personality, but when you come to a club like Juve, you need to realise there will always be expectations - whether we're coming from Serie B or not. His attitude thus far has been very similar to what he adopted in his prior stints at Valencia and Chelsea. And we all know how those ended up. Said it time and again, he just doesn't have the persona for a winning club like Juve. The coach has to know what it feels like to be a winner. Ranieri, unfortunately doesnt know what that is like. It may sound harsh, but its a fact and I hate to admit it - the way he speaks of not needing any new signings is either a genius smokescreen or plain acceptance that we just dont stand a chance in the top 3. And if it is the latter, then I'm not too happy knowing he's comfortable with that.

he is a genius in my Juve book until he proves me wrong on the pitch after a couple of months.
There are a couple of possibilities- we have the money but he thinks this team is complete
- we don't have enough left for any major signings
-he knows this team won't do but the board block any more signings
-these are tactics to lower prices on players we want
What ever is behind these statements I will give Ranieri credit untill Januari.
Only then am I willing to assess his performance as a Juve coach.
If he fails our objective to at least win a ticket for the CL only then will I join the bashing Ranieri -club. But certainly not after a couple of friendlies.

OR the whole world is retarted, including Ranieri and the Juventus board, except for the few people in here who are gifted with the brilliant ability to know what changes need to be made in order for the squad to be successful.

Pray tell who could you be referring too?
The one thing i absolutely abhor is people without an form of foresight.

What is the point of blaming the guy if we have an unsucessful season when at the beginning you can see the players at his disposal are not good enough?

But that is besides the point, the biggest point is that Ranieri has reduced the club officially to a second-rate team

Its bad enough you come on here and read people bash Inter all day and night and seems to be as interested in how we are doing as Inter is doing as well as we are.

I bet if you took a poll on here, majority would probably prefer to see Inter fail than Juventus succeed. But that seems to be a the mentality on here, negativity + lack of looking at the basics.

i don't care if he says we are not gonna buy anymore players cos I won't believe that for 1 second but they guy throughout his career has just being like a valet not a boss.

He does not give that kind of aura but then you hear him talk about other clubs when we should be concentrating on our problems is just annoying.

Anyone who thinks that people who talk football do not always know what they are talking about are indeed retarded.

I learn more from this forum than I do from board members and some managers.

Why not just rename this forum suckinguptoInter forum because its not just hatred for the club it is deep envy that you guys seem to have for Inter that galls

wow contest for the longest post! ha ha..

Denco your point on proffessionalism is well made I accept (recalling incidents like Keegan's "I would love it" statement if anyone remembers that) but having seen C.R's year at Chelsea, he know's what he's doing with the press, he's a gent and what's more he is honest. So while Fergie/Mourhino et al would be more crafty our Claudio wears his heart on his sleeve and after Crapello I for one am for that.

The other thing is that our circumstances are unique in world football, given our return to Serie A, the stolen scudetti not to mention the telecomms links, I am proud to have a manager that will state his intention upfront in our 'derby' which is more than city/national rivalry after all, it is right vs. wrong..

I have no envy of Inter. I welcome the underdog tag and the 'clean' frame of mind we play with this year after years of finger-pointing and insinuation.
