Lippi: I recommended Roma coach Spalletti to Juventus

23.12.08 | tribalfootball.com

Italy boss Marcello Lippi has revealed he urged Juventus to make Luciano Spalletti coach following his departure four years ago.

Lippi rates the Roma boss as the best coach in Serie A and said: "Spalletti is the best. Second, fourth, the Champions League, Coppa Italia. All this, with a squad significantly lower than that of Roberto Mancini's Inter.

"For Spalletti, I recommended him to the Triad in 2004, after my exit."

On the surprise of this season, Lippi added: "It may seem like a provocation, but for me it was the Juventus of (Claudio) Ranieri. They came from Serie B, third, also in the first round of the Champions League and now second behind Inter."

Ranieri: «Everybody put his heart in it»

«I think there are various things that remain in my mind: the matches won against Milan, away to Inter, against Roma. Having achieved, because achieved is the right word to use, the right to play the Champions League preliminaries and then speaking of this last part of the season, having won in Madrid...I think that these are the highlights of 2008 we will remember». Claudio Ranieri, looking at 2008, recalls the most emotional moments of the year which is about to end, however his analysis does not only include the successes. The coach points out the most important quality of Juventus, almost as a starting point for the newyear: «The strength given to us by our champions and the fact that all the players we signed managed to fit in well. Even Tiago, who last year did not manage to find the right pace to emerge, this year managed to do so. Also, the fact, champions and not, put their heart in it. Everybody sacrificed himself and gave all for the team and this, I believe, is very important».

Expectations for the new year are plenty, but as everybody knows, wishes are made but not spoken: «Wishes are not told, and then one must work hard to make them come true. Let us say I expect a very positive 2009». In conclusion best wishes for the new year with which one cannot disagree: «I hope there will come an end to problems in the Far East, that these endless wars stop. I am not saying that the whole world should agree but that at least there should be respect. Everybody should learn to respect one another».

Ranieri has opened the door for a trident.

DP,Trez and Amauri are the most prolific strikers of the past 1,5 season. Amauri and DP track back anyway. This year he has the midfielders(in quanity) to support the strikers. Nedved is fading and Camo continues to have injury woes.

The trident has become a real option suddenly.

He is also ready to go for Diego it seems:

Buffon
RB Legro Chiellini Molinaro
Sissoko Marchisio
Diego
Amauri Trezeguet Del Piero (C)

Not too shabby

I'm pretty sure and convinced that he will never opt for a Trident. Unless we have some serious injuries in the midfield therefore he will tend to change his plans.

But if everyone is available, we're not going to witness a trident I'm afraid.

Ranieri reviews Bianconeri 2008

Claudio Ranieri looks back on “an excellent 2008,” but notes Juventus have more ambitious targets this year – the Scudetto.

We want to improve the third place finish we achieved last season. For the moment we are managing that, but the campaign is not even halfway through,” said the Coach.

We always want the best and, without leading our fans on, we are working to make our dreams come true, to become winners and to do it as quickly as possible.”

The title was a long shot last season after returning from the Calciopoli-imposed Serie B, but they still qualified for the Champions League.

2008 was truly a good year,” continued Ranieri. “We did some great things, getting back into Europe being the highlight.

“We also had the gem of winning at San Siro against Inter in Serie A and of course reaching the second round of the Champions League
.”

Alessandro Del Piero was undoubtedly the hero of 2008 for Juventus, as he won back-to-back Capocannoniere titles in Serie B and A.

It is my honour and good fortune to train him. When you have a captain like this, you can relax. He has scored many goals and has exceptional determination. I’m sure he’ll always remember the tribute given him at the Santiago Bernabeu.”

Del Piero was given a standing ovation by the home fans after bagging a brace to defeat Real Madrid in Spain.

Others also shone, of course. We were convinced that Amauri was a great signing and, goals aside, he always works for the team.

“I’m not surprised at how well he has done, because he is a player who has come up through the ranks. Amauri has experienced the best and worst of football, so he knows how to face situations.

“Alex Manninger has also proved himself to be up to the task
,” said Ranieri of the goalkeeper who replaced Gigi Buffon during a long injury lay-off.

Manninger had done the same at Arsenal when replacing David Seaman, who was a monumental figure.”
