Pirlo starting as a regista in these kind of CL away games is suicidal IMO. It would be a tragedy. He would be completely shut down like he was most of times last year at Europe. And would cause a big defensive harm.

Marchisio has been phenomenal as a DM, I absolutely love it. World Class at this position, he's played amazingly well everytime. He's developed strenght and grinta, even beating guys up when needed.

Pirlo should be used in home games against sides which will park the bus, not in away CL battles like last one.

I know Atletico actually parked the bus, but no way in hell they would let Pirlo breath. He would just be overwelmed. He would also be a great option to go in at 65 minute, with the other team tired. With space to play he still is the legend at his position.

:agreed: Against a quick counter attacking team Marchisio is a much better choice.

sorry but you (not just you pedroflu, but most who are against pirlo now) act like pirlo is some new on the scene player.

This is the same guy that was a vital set up of a milan side who reached 3 c finals, an european final and a world cup final. so much for teams figuring him out or shutting him out theory.

100% guranatee the reason for this teory is because of the way conte had juve set up. if we play with wingers, or under allegri's juve where the full backs are pushing up higher, you would see pirlo having a lot of space to operate in

Pirlo hasn't played a professional match for more than two months. To start him in possibly the most important fixture in Serie A in such a situation is risky to say the least.

I to think Pirlo wouldn't make difference, Atl. even pressed Marchisio but they would have pressed Pirlo harder and with that much physical play like yesterday he wouldn't last more than 20 minutes. The only player that could have been of use to link the midfield and the attack + add another dimension to our play would have Pereyra.
Marchisio was barely pressed and Pirlo (more than anyone else) is the most capable player of spraying penetrating passes under high pressure. Certainly better than marchisio at it. Pereyra is an unknown quality. Pirlo is a known world class quality. I am surprised how many people are undermining Pirlo's abilities. His problem was never that he is easily marked or pressured out of the game. Many have tried and many have failed. Its one of his assets. His weakness is in winning the ball and tackling but certainly not in maintaining possession or in servicing the forwards under pressure. Pirlo on a bad day would have kept their defense and midfield very busy. On a good day he'd have assisted some goals.
