I love how Marchisio is playing in this 'new' role under Allegri. With Pirlo we get more creativity but we lose a lot in defense. Marchisio covers more ground, runs more and also has great passing skills ( not as good as Pirlo's but its enough). The team is more aggressive and more players play with the ball, we are not so predictable like when Pirlo plays. So far so good, I'm maybe biased because I love Marchisio but...

How so? he made a million passes sideways, wasnt heavily pressured during the match and didnt have to do too much defending. With that much possession Pirlo could have created something.
I'm sure Atletico would have pressed Pirlo hard had he played, they adjusted to the fact that Marchisio doesn't have the same passing abilities. In any case, as Red said, our forwards' movement was so inexistent that Pirlo's passes would probably have accomplished nothing.

Pirlo had nobody to aim at, it's not like a plethora of runs from our forwards were being ignored, the movement was not there. He's obviously better to have when we dominate possession as we did for most of the game but I doubt he'd have been a difference maker here.

It could be understood the other way around, our forwards might have been more static because they know marchisio is a DM not a regista.

It really isnt complicated. We had the majority of possession in our half while our forwards were without service all game. Our midfield simply didnt link defense with attack. Now there is one player who can do that better than any other player on the planet. Pretending that Pirlo would have been of no use to a team that possessed the ball but failed to deliver it to the forwards is insane. It is the one thing that he does better than any other player in his position.

I to think Pirlo wouldn't make difference, Atl. even pressed Marchisio but they would have pressed Pirlo harder and with that much physical play like yesterday he wouldn't last more than 20 minutes. The only player that could have been of use to link the midfield and the attack + add another dimension to our play would have Pereyra.

You could make a case for Morata + Pirlo together making a difference, Allegri said it himself if you want a striker to run the channels then it's Morata. If not, then Llorente

So assuming Llorente would've been picked anyway, adding Pirlo in to the mix wouldn't have been a significant help offensively, and defensively he'd be targeted

Hell if they done a number on Pirlo (It's very likely they would have) we'd do what we used to, and get Bonucci to step up and take over from him. Nobody wants to see that.

Athletico ate very good at limiting space for kids to control the ball in.

U know who else is good at finding space no matter how tight? The master of creating space pirlo

Pirlo is always a danger in FK situations at the very least though. Yesterday, they didn't really pose a threat on counter attacks, or had us pinned back in our own half for extended periods, so I honestly thought Pirlo would have been a decent weapon against them. I hope to see him against Roma, I miss the bearded wizard.

He can pick passes that no other player can. Amazingly smart player. Seeing as we had 70% of the ball yesterday, I'm sure he could have created at least ONE goalscoring opportunity for us yesterday.
