Given how frequently his role has changed (and how often those roles haven't really suited him) it's little wonder some view him as inconsistent.
I agree. But i can understand those, who think he needs just that little extra. He sometimes gets himself into good positions from nice timed runs and great fight, only to miss that last pass or to take a dribble a little to close to the keeper instead of scoring, even though he more often than not seems to try and do the right thing..

I think his inconsistency last season was mainly due to having periods of limited game time and that injury he had for quite a while... I think Marchisio is very consistent in his perfomances, always fills out his role in the team. It's right though, that he only sometimes add those extraordinary that at least one player needs to deliver each game. Pogba more often makes that magic pass or scores a goal out of nothing to break down a tough defense, but so say Marchisio often plays badly is wrong imo.
I would say that he would be a very different kind of captain. The kind that leads by example, and inspire everyone with his work rate and commitment. But, I would still prefer someone like Chiellini, who is able to vocally motivate and in-your-face kind of captain.

Would be more than happy to sacrifice this guy and sell him to keep Arturo if things came down to that. What happened to manures interest in him? They think they are too good for him? He's a hell of a lot better than any of their current mids, that's for sure.
