all i see is sheer bias in your post, no ref no matter how competent he is will catch every single detail that happens on the pitch, and i challenge anyone here to have spotted the bite without the multiple replays and angled takes. Your initial point is moot to start with because players are constantly punished because of video evidence, if we expected referees to be all seeing super humans like you do, we wouldnt need panels to review video evidence post match.

The funny thing, though, is that the otherwise useless goal line referees could have been extremely useful in this case.

You should look at how the game went. The referee allowed this throughout the whole game, except with the red card. Cavani took Veratti down with the studs up and a stretched leg, which, in the law, is a more dangerous tackle than what Marchisio did.

If an opponent did this foul against Juve and got a yellow, I will forget about the episode immediately and never complain that it was a red card offense.

They can probably find a rule in the books that supports the ref's action, but this was a weak red card. A very weak one.

I saw worse challenges throughout the game and if I would go by the criteria that ref set, that was never a red, yellow definitely. The fact is Uruguay with all their attacking aptness struggled vs supposedly fragile Italian defense and I was half expecting at some point that ref, pressured by the home crowd, their coach Tabarez who was screaming at every decision wrong or right, might break down mentally and decide the outcome in disgraceful manner. Cunts.
