Again it was to harsh, no way that's red card. Also does anyone have gif where Cavani injured Veratti? He also went with studs to his shin, and ref didn't even call that a foul...
Jesus christ. No one is arguing there is contact, a foul, a yellow. Marchisio's head is turned, he's already concentrated on taking the ball. He's putting his knee up to protect his mid section, the foot follows the knee. He has to suffer the consequences of being careless with his studs, but it's not an intent to injure, which is what a red card is for.
If you want to give reds for this play, there will be 2-3 reds a game every time there is studs above the foot for fuck sake. I don't want to be the guy that says, "you've never played" but come on...
People who think thats red are biased, never played football, or are just idiots.
Marchisio is indeed putting his knee to protect himself. Its dangerous play, he hits an opponent, fine, give yellow.
if THIS is red, then EVERY dangerous play, like trying to controll a ball whilst the opponents heads it and accidently hits the face, will be red.
IF HE ACTUALLY KICKED HIM , HE WOULD HAVE SNAPPED HIS KNEE.
I'll try not to be biased here. When I was watching the game, after seeing the replays, I agreed with the ref. But now looking at the different angles, if that happened to me in a game I was playing, I wouldn't expect a red. It was dangerous play, but it doesn't look like intent was there, neither was there the force to injure the player. Still, I can't say it was a ridiculous call by the ref.
Easily best player of the tournament of Italy, absolutely not deserved red card, he stopped his foot, he barely touched uruguanian player which instantly jumped right after refederee showed the red card to Claudio

Agreed. I thought it was a red at the moment. Still think it wasn't a wrong call, maybe a tad harsh since similar challenges have gone unpunished in previous matches.
Clashes come and go, players sometimes let their foot hang a bit, but he never actually kicked, just pulled his knee up and was reckless with his studs.
Yellow card
If he has the intention to hurt him, red. It really is that simple. And with these batshit insane refs, football is turning into a faggorty

Why should he have his foot that high anyway? That was totally brainless and potentially very dangerous. I love that team and player and I'm sure Uruguay couldn't have beaten them if it hadn't been for that card but I'm not really outraged over the ref's decision.
Did you see how the ref refused to see the bitemarks ?
If i was Buffon, i'd take chiellini to the sideline, to a camera and microphone section, and shout to the world the ref refuses to see it.
Then go to the goalline ref or the 4th ref and repeat
