I have to say that Marchisio is perhaps the most improved player in Italy over the last 2 years. He looks totally world class and composed in the Champions League. I used to be a big skeptic and am glad to be totally proven wrong. Forza Marchisio - il futuro capitano!

If you check the pre-Celtic match press, the Brits didn't really think much of Marchisio and it seemed they expected Pogba. Maybe Celtic didn't do their homework on him either, because while Vidal was subdued and got attention, Marchisio found plenty of space imo. So I am thinking, maybe his below best performance leading up to the game is just part of the big game plans :klin: so they don't pick up his movements. He had an exceptional game though, connecting with Peluso wit those back heels and runs into the box were perfectly timed to avoid attention.

Was an interesting choice by Conte.

Used them the other way round last night, though, presumably because he thought Celtic posed more of a threat down their left side.
I thought a bit of it was also due to that Forrest lad playing high up on the left for Celtic in an oddly shaped formation where there was no RW.

Also Marchisio's ghosting runs in behind the defence were going to be more effective than Vidal pushing forward due to Celtic's high pressing game requiring a high defensive line IMO.

“The aim is to win the championship again and to get to London for the Champions League Final,” he told Tuttosport.
“I know that it is a difficult ask, but we’ll try everything possible in order to do just that.”
The leaders’ title credentials will be tested on March 1 when they take on Napoli away, a side who are just four points behind them in Serie A.
“I’m convinced it will be a spectacle, a great game between great sides,” the Italian international continued.
Marchisio did hit the headlines recently when he spoke of his dislike for Napoli – although he maintained he was only talking in a sporting sense.
“I was actually acknowledging Napoli for their excellent results over these past few years,” he explained.
“I don’t hate Napoli, that’s absurd because every time that I go there I always manage to smile. We leave the fog behind and we find a place in the sun, with marvellous people and incredible scenery.”
