If he has his "big season" this season, and Del Piero retires, I see him taking the captain's armband. I know that Gigi is in pole position for it, but most coaches prefer an outfield player.

That's a big if, though. He must have one hell of a season for this to happen.

But if he continues to play like he does now, there are a lot of factors pointing to him being our next captain:

1) He has leadership qualities
2) His teammates respect him
3) He is a true juventino at heart
4) He is Conte's favourite player
5) He is italian, and plays for the national side
6) He is, above all else, a team player
7) He is loved by the majority of fans

1) He has leadership qualities
Does he? To me, a leader, in addition to usually being one of the club's top players, is one who lifts the rest of the team when they're down. Who shows up, consistently, on not just big occasions, but against lesser opposition as well. He's the guy the rest of the team looks to as an example in-game. I don't think Marchisio embodies this at all. He is criminally inconsistently, struggling to be relevant on the pitch more often than not. On top of that, his good games almost always run concurrent with great team performances. This suggests to me that he's more of the "supporting cast" type and not the man who can set himself apart as a captain should be able.

Seriously though, giving this guy the captaincy if he has a good season? Just one? Just like that? No chance. He should put in a good month before we even get onto talk of a good season.

Besides which, Buffon and Chiellini both are much better candidates.

No but seriously, does this really matter?
It shouldn't, but Juve has never had a non-italian official first-captain. So I thought it was a valid point for the list. Sivori and Monti were Italian-Argentinian, that's the closest we've come to a non-italian captain.

And with Juve being very tied to it's traditions, how can you say that nationality does not come into play when deciding on the Juve captaincy?

Oh, cool, I was just asking... made me wonder if that should be a point while handling the armband..
