Lets set everything aside, the fanboys and haters, the stats, the fact that he came from the primavera.

What does a central midfielder do ?
depends on the roll

Last season, he started off with the more offensive central roll in a 4 man midfield.
It took 3 games before aquilani replaced him and pulled the team up a level. for the time aqua, quag and krasic played well, we were second and trailing milan
aquilani surely isnt even close to worldclass, yet he beat marchisio out of that roll
so we can conclude that he isnt very good at the offensive centremid roll
No, we can't conclude that. First of all, it's DN who made the decision and his decisions can be questionable sometimes. Second, we can debate all night long to compare Marchisio and Aquilani but stats can't lie. Marchisio had 4 goals and 4 assisst while Aquilani had 2-5. Tell me who's more offensive now.

this season, defensive roll in a two man midfield, next to pirlo.
so plays as a defensive midfielder.

what are they supposed to do
break up the opponent attacking moves , move into channels to intercept passes, dictate the midfield, dicatate the tempo and passing of the team from the back.

Marchisio fanboys, explain me with examples what of the above he can actually perform, because i missed it.
It is Pirlo who should dictate the game, and Marchisio did breakup moves, just watch that I posted a few pages back. One example is right at the 00:00; other examples are 1:21, 1:41, and 1:56.

And I don't think it is that simple, no you can't just assume roles. For instance sometimes Marchisio can go up all the way to the front and Pirlo is left behind while the other times it can be the other way around; even sometimes they both go forwards. Conte's formation, while it is organized, isn't that rigid like Del Neri's.

Reason why he' isn't sticky anymore? Future captain (4th atm after Del Piero, Buffon, Chiellini..), first-team player since 3-4 years and a true juventino... I don't understand what problem do you have with him?

The ones who say he is always invisible and not good don't understand football. Under each coach he was a first choice midfielder and still...under Conte too, and he is in the national team.

i applaud a reply with facts in it.
you indeed have a point.
i'm not going into the question wether vidal would have done more.

but, will he effectively break up the opponent, when its around the same level as us ?

future fixtures will prove the answer.

Yup, Marchisio's "just misunderstood." Poor little guy.
