Marchisio thinks of himself as a club icon, he will not accept taking a bench role.
What makes you think this JCK?

I've never heard him label himself an icon, and I think he's generally a pretty humble guy. Nor has our lineup been good enough these past few years to keep him on the bench, so we really have no idea how that would go. Once we're a good team and playing CL football, he'll get decent playing time whether he's first choice or not.

I think he wants to be a part of something great, and that he's proven himself to be a team-first guy.

He also currently has a great contract. I'm sure we'd all love to see more from him, but I don't think Claudio Marchisio is one of our current 'problems' - far from it, actually.

Marchisio's an enigma. He's a talented player with good technique and an unmatched work rate, and there have been matches where he was the only player who looked like he cared, and pretty much dragged the team along by the scruff of the neck. In those matches he's looked like captain material - the kind of player who you'd think would be incredible with the right team around him - but then there are those other matches that happen all too often where you don't even notice he's on the pitch.

I like Marchisio as a player and he seems like a good, humble guy, but... I wish for his sake that he was a more effective player :(

Marchisio is the only common denominator between the squad of last season and this season.

Other than DP, Melo and Chiellini - who missed a number of games themselves in any case, all of our horrible mental failures in games seem to have featured Marchisio on the field

that doesn't make sense, you cant blame drop of form of individual in the worst 2 seasons
he was good in Ranieri seasons and he helped the team to a wins many times with his goals and assists

What are you trying to accomplish with this statement? Are you now (generally) trying to pin our club's mental instability of the last of couple seasons on one player?

You understand how many mistakes have been made by our administration, and management, the fact that we've had a revolving carousel of players and coaches, relentless injury problems and now you're going to throw this nonsensical tidbit out there as if it holds any legitimate validity?

This type of logic is superficial nonsense that serves no qualitative purpose, other than to satisfy a very lame, personal, continual tirade against the player.

Marchisio hasn't given us what many had originally envisioned he would, and in a perfect world he'd probably be starting from the bench (actually, in a perfect world he'd be a star); unfortunately, we're not there yet.

Most definitely not Marchisio's fault by any means - I've said in many other posts that it's deeper than the players and coach - there are significant problems much higher.

Simply pointing out an interesting fact.

And I agree, he's no more than a bench player
