If you didn't see him as the player that gives a damn the most out there, then you're blind. Consistently put in good crosses, and then you'd see him half a minute later defending when someone else loses possession.

He should start ahead of Aquilani in CM actually.

Consistently put in good crosses? You're having a laugh, right? We had one good cross the entire match - the one Iaquinta fluffed in the second half (coming from Del Piero, I believe). He tracked back some, but little good it did most of the time, as the entire midfield was overrun or bypassed totally. Was poor in getting forward, as well.

'A' for effort, 'F' for execution.

It takes two to make a cross, and nearly all of his fell in the middle of the penalty area, Iaquinta and Matri didn't threaten at all aerially. If you think a cross has to land perfectly at a players feet/head for it to be successful then there's not much point in me discussing this with you.

Let's leave it at the fact that I don't consider 'good crosses' (let alone successful ones) to be balls merely directed at a central location not accounting for anything else... Like attacker positioning, open space that might be run into, and such.

This is beside the point, anyway, as if you consider Marchisio to have put in a good performance today then that's totally your business. Although I might question your standards, if anything.

I didn't say it was a good performance deliberately, because it's hard for anyone to display that sort of quality when he's lacking a team. But yes, he was clearly our best player.
