But that really isn't enough if we want to take the team to the next level. We need creativity from left, right and middle and Marchisio just doesn't provide anything for the team. He's not necessarily detrimental but he needs to lift his game or Aquilani will likely take his spot.

He had some nice one two's in attack, he is a box to box mid, he is good in attack because he has some nice technique, Yaya is a just beast but really Marchisio was and has not been that bad.

Melo is looking much better going forward dare I say it. We need someone who can spread the ball for our wingers, putting the ball into space for them and provide through balls for our strikers. That would be my ideal partner for Melo, an excellent passer.

This season people can't defend him again about playing out of position.. And now people start defending him because of the contract issue..

he most certainly did not do 'nothing', made some good passes to get some counter-attacks going, and intercepted quite a few passes.

but defensively he looked bad.

He doesn't do anything particularly well so this is what you'll get most days. Add on top of it the fact that he doesn't have amazing athleticism or size and I just don't see how people expect him to be a world class player.

He's just a pretty good player who has no glaring weakness but no real strength.

His glaring weakness is that he has no real strength.

Marchisio is a all-round solid mifielder , I don't know about you guys but thats GREAT, they are hard to come by. He can finish, create plays and works hard. Reminds me of a young de-rossi before he reached new heights

Lol...I remember last season when people who looked to praise him settled upon the term 'consistent' (as he has no real stand out qualities). Now, since that's clearly proven to be out the window, they've settled upon 'solid' (translation - do nothing of note all game and look as inconspicuous as possible to avoid criticism because after all being "not bad" equals "good" to a lot of people).

Too many cut him slack for being a non-terrible youth product. It's happened before.

people are always looking for flash when they rate a player....what are his stand out qualities? he has excellent tactiacl awareness. This season he seems to be joining the attack quite often yet he never seems to be out of position going the other way. He is always open for a pass and always in position to make the tackle. He seems to always be the one who makes the "smart tackle", ie taking a yellow to stop an opponents break out....true box to box mids are tough to find these days with everyone being labelled as a deep defensive or attacking mid
