Yaya is much too strong for him physically, but it's worth remembering that Man City flooded the midfield so they often had the extra man and he was chasing nothing. But he didn't do very well tonight.

Melo and Aquilani should be starters from now. Marchisio needs a little time on the bench to figure out what he wants to contribute for this team.

Marchisio did fine.

He and Sissoko did a good job of restricting Man City's mdfield, despite the fact Man City had the extra man in there.

People get past Marchisio too easily, and to think some people wanted him to be paird with Aquilani. He really isn't much of a defensive player, the only thing that makes people have that perception, is because of his work rate and stamina.

Yaya dominated him today, but to be honest, anyone who has watched City this season knows that Yaya has been a very good signing for them thus far and has dominated almost every midfield in front of him this season, including Chelsea's midfield. Top signing.

:agree:

I always admired his technique too for such a big man. Top player.

My browser just shat itself...

If just standing there not making tackles or even getting in the way of your opponent, not moving around and working hard to receive the ball and making lateral ineffective passes all game is what our midfielders should be aspiring to in this team, we're in trouble.

Then we definitely are in trouble.

Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the problem with Marchisio ;)

I don't think he had a great game last night, but he definitely wasn't bad either. Did well to keep the shape of the team, provided balance in difficult circumstances.

There really wasn't a single player last night who did "nothing".
