I feel that it is rather strange that there is so much competition for the attackers and CMF spots yet the competition in defence isn't that great in the Azzurri compared to previous times. The only good player I can think of in the defence compartment in Chiellini

it's a phase I guess...remember the days where there was literally no good Italian MF, and the only real striker they had was Bobo Vieri...back in those days, the defence was arguably the best 4 ever assembled (Maldini - Nesta - Canna - Zambro)
