Why do some people want us to play the Xmas tree formation and force DP to play in an unusual position when we can use the same players to play the 4-3-1-2? These people want to use the 4-3-2-1 for the sake of using it, as if that's the cure to out problems and that 4-3-1-2 is a useless formation.
Yeah thats true but it all depends on del piero's situation. I don't think he'll play alot this season so we might just switch back and forth with formations.

I'm a bit gay for Claudio.

I hope he comes back strong, but it won't be as easy to get a starting spot with the 4-2-3-1 once others are fit. Having said that, he'll probably play loads.

As silly as it sounds his injury came at the right time for Ciro. It meant he didn't have the problem of fitting 3 quality central players into 2 positions. The worst thing for Claudio is the form of Camo & Giovinco. If either of them were in poor form Ciro could play 4-3-2-1 but at the moment that would just be ridiculous!

But as we've seen Poulsen has been getting game time so there will be more than ample opportunity for Claudio, Momo and Melo to all get quality game time

i am much more eager to see Marchisio involved in our first team, than Del Piero...Especially given the current form of Diego and Camo, and to a lesser degree, Giovinco.

the 4-3-1-2 looked poor when we lacked match sharpness...and ALSO...when Ciro was playing two target men in attack. Yes, with DP back in contention we could revert to a double act of target man and flair merchant. DP and Amuri/Trez...also, this would allow Marchisio to slot in beside Momo and Melo...but at the expense of Giovinco AND Camo???

I would prefer Marchisio to challenge momo and melo, and also cover the attacking midfield positions, where he may not be as creative as the first choices, but he is certainly more effective, at least in the flank positions, than De Ceglie or Tiago. Perhaps he is also more useful than Tiago in Diego's position...that is an unknown. And I doubt we will learn the truth of that matter unless Diego gets mauled.

So...Marchisio's chances of first team inclusion are directly tied to DP's chances, when everyone is fit and firing on all cylinders. In the current 4-2-3-1 formation...he will have to settle, most likely, for back up to Melo and Momo, though they pick up plenty of yellows, so he won't have to wait very long to stake his own claim.

I think we should try a 4321. My reason behind this proposal is that sooner or later one of Diego, Camo, Gio will either be suspended, injured, or in need of rest. The more we rotate them the better because they are the ones that complete our attack, create chances and in more recent cases score the goals.

Marchisio has to play. The fact that Melo/Sissoko own the midfield alone is great. But we see how much ground those two cover for 90 minutes and how many balls they win (and lose :sergio:). The more those two play in the 4231 the more tired they are going to be. I think with Marchisio playing with the two of them in a 4321 will be much easier on the 3 as its an extra pair of legs to carry the burden of creating a hell of a wall for teams to get around/through. And in attack Marchsio and Melo (even Sissoko) can push forward. Obviously they wont contribute as much as Gio, Diego or Camo in the attack but will still offer support and also as an extra body to kill a counter attack.

Just my thoughts. Well, thats a lie its what I want. I want Marchisio to play. We know the 4231 works if everyone is fit but I think the 4321 is a better way to keeps legs fresh and players rotating.

Yes/No? Please discuss.

I agree with your reasoning, and I'd be interested in seeing us use a 4-3-2-1 once Marchisio returns.

Anything but a 4-4-2 or x-x-1-2, which really doesn't work for us.

Gray...I think that is the first post of mine you have ever responded to. And you agreed :touched:
