For the big CL games, that's how I'd play. One striker and Camo/DP/Gio next to Diego.

Why not?! he has the pace and the physical presence not just to play a sub role to those guys but he could overtake them as well! but still if the 3 of them are fit i think it would be better to play a 4-3-2-1 formation as this one:

Marchisio---Melo---Sissoko

Camo--------------Seba

I don't think Ahmed is overrating him, we will have to see how good Marchisio plays when he returns, he was on excellent form in our stagnant midfield before his injury in particular he gave a brilliant performance away to Genoa. The 4-2-3-1 seems bad news for him because there are other players better suited to all of the positions. He could play in Gio's role on the left or as one of the defensive midfielders but neither are his preferred position and he would likely not make the starting eleven. I remember Ferrara saying that he might switch back to the 4-3-1-2 when Del Piero is ready and that would benefit Claudio... whichever of the two formations is used our injury problems will allow him plenty of game time

Melo can cover for Grosso when going forward.
Marchisio can cover for an RB when going forward.
Momo do the usual and cover the whole central area with the help of one of Melo or Marchisio or both if possible.

This is what I call SOLID MIDFIELD.

Why do some people want us to play the Xmas tree formation and force DP to play in an unusual position when we can use the same players to play the 4-3-1-2? These people want to use the 4-3-2-1 for the sake of using it, as if that's the cure to out problems and that 4-3-1-2 is a useless formation.

he was our best player along with Traitor at the start of the season, and Melo has hardly been that convincing these days

Actually, Marchisio was quite poor at the start of the season.

He then hit a good run of form until his injury.
