If we can sell him for anywhere between €15-20m we should. We could buy 2 decent midfielders who actually offer something like Aquilani and Fernando of Porto.

Yet in their serie A careers they both scored less than Vucinic, both in total and on average, and they both assisted less goals, both in total and on average.

The difference is minimal. Plus we can't debate who is the better finisher over these stats. We need scored goals per shots on goal ratio. That will decide who is the better finisher. :)

Many supporters point to the 25-year-old’s being played out of position on the left as a reason for his stagnation over the last couple of years, but if he had been good enough as a central midfielder he’d have been able to push out the likes of Mohamed Sissoko, Felipe Melo and Alberto Aquilani under any of the four coaches he’s played under in that time.

Giorgio Chiellini has also shown adaptability by playing the odd game at left-back, but was soon moved back into the centre of defence for a simple reason: he is the best they have in that position. Marchisio, on the other hand, is not the best central midfielder at Vinovo – not by a long shot

Not saying I disagree with the general point they make, although it's more of a blanket statement which appears following bad performances. It didn't appear after the TIM or other friendlies where he did ok to good, but last season created a stick to beat him with and will continue to until he performs well more regularly. He's in that situation now where everything wrong he does will be highlighted and everything good will be responded with 'he doesn't do it enough'. Other players will be afforded more tolerance as they have a clean slate or past achievements, so that's the situation he works in.

Also, the perception - that funnily enough isn't really apparent on this forum - that he is 'new Tardelli' and the other old adages they come up with in the article, isn't really apparent now. Only a few clueless fans would think that. Marchisio has developed into a pretty good player who doesn't really suit any tactical setup we have used in the last 2 years, it's up to him whether he applies himself better or stays the same because the club goes on regardless.
