Come on man, I love Claudio. But he has not been the beast I know he can be. He has often given us a glimpse of his potential. I can honestly say that he have had one or two bad games for us this season.

Sure, he played a couple of below par games. He's been brilliant otherwise. He's the last guy you should be criticizing though; that's for sure.

How do you think Melo would do if he was asked to play wide?

Marchisio has done very well considering he's been playing out of position.

Marchisio and Melo are two different type of players.

Who is saying I am critcizing? Is it criticism to say that this guy has more potential than he has showed? Is it criticism to point out that Marchisio has had one or two bad games?

No, you said he's been a ghost in some matches.

Please, I don't mean to be a jerk but it's "hasn't he".

The reason you don't notice Marchisio is because he's the type of player that covers a lot of space and does all that dirty work that goes unnoticed. The reason I like Marchisio so much is that he does that and is also really talented with the ball at his feet. You rarely find players this versatile.

Edgar Davids used to be like that for us if you remember.

Ah, my bad for the bad spelling. Sorry dude.

Anyways, I know that Marchisio sacrifices himself for the team. I agree with you that he often has to do the dirty work. But I have also noticed some games where he is just plain invinsible. I am still saying that Marchisio has yet to improve, is it wrong of me? Isn't that what every other Juve fan would like? That he became even better?

Good point, but I think the new position suits him better, I mean he isn't as effective as Melo and Aquilani are in the center. If Melo kept on performing like last season, that would have been another story. They should stay as they are imo.

No worries.

I don't know about that, buddy. I mean, Marchisio for me is all over the pitch. He's always defending and he's always there to support our attack. He's actually very involved. In fact, I wish we could get a statistic that would show us how many times each player touches the ball. Marchisio would definitely be in the top three.

I think he can and will get better. But that isn't to say that he isn't playing well now. I think he's great, and I've even said that he's good enough to start for a lot of world class teams.

Yeah, he is pretty much everywhere and the game against Milan proved it. He is doing his job very well right now. But what will happen if we got a leftwing? Would be fight for the place against Aquilani and Melo?

I think Marchisio has shown he can play anywhere in the middle. If he can basically replace anyone on the pitch so he wouldn't really be fighting for a place with anyone if you know what I mean. Chances are, the coach is going to be giving at least one of Krasic, Melo, Aquilani, ? a rest every game or two so Marchisio would play in that position.

Pepe has been benched so that Marchi and Aqui can play together.

But if we got an exellent left wing?
We'd have a great team and Marchisio would just have to prove that he's better than one of our 4 midfielders to earn a place in the starting 11. Right now, Melo and Aquilani are more effective than him in the middle but I'm confident he will always have a place in Juve.

The selective memory of some of these "Marchisio's our best player this season" brigade members is absolutely hilarious.

He went from "Mr. Consistency" last season (consistently average) to "Mr. Solid" this season (better known as "Mr. Can't Be Described Beyond a Vaguely Positive Sounding Term Because I Haven't Really Stood Out But Nevertheless Must Be Praised By Forum Members Who Want to Suck My Cock) to "Mr. Aquilani Pushed Me Out and Almost to the Bench If It Weren't For a Lack of Good Left Wingers in the Squad".

Granted, he's out of position lately, and he's had some good to very good games, but this does not discount his going absolutely missing in most of the previous (first half of our season thus far). He has the ability to be very good when he shows up, but thus far, he's never had a commanding presence like Melo or a definitive, game-controlling performance like Aquilani. Both of those have been miles better, not to mention Krasic, and even old Del Piero has been more decisive. Quagliarella is up there, too.

Pepe was our left winger for the first few games of the season. The only reason Marchisio is in the starting line-up is because Del Neri knows it would be such a waste to put him on the bench. He played the guy out of position just so he could start. And if we didn't have any left wingers; I'd bet you my left nut that Del Neri would play something of a 4-3-3 as long as Marchi is playing.

Like I said, he hasn't been super in every single game this season but he's been great overall this season. He's been playing out of position and doing a very good job at that too.

Pepe was our left winger, yes, and though I think he did an adequate job, apparently he proved himself expendable and was dropped. It wasn't as if Marchisio forced him out of the team with some imperious form, but more so because Del Neri didn't think he was up to snuff and truly viable alternatives don't exist for us (Lanzafame who's been amateurish...and Marchisio).

The only reason he's in the starting 11 is because he did an admirable job against Inter "on the flank" (a tactical choice for helping to control the center midfield, as he hardly got wide).

Regarding your last comment? Huh? Why aren't we playing 4-3-3 now, then? He's sticking to a 4-2-2 despite not being able to count on Lanzafame, Pepe or even Martinez.

So, really, if we were to have a proper left winger --> Marchisio would be benched. Simple as.

-edit. The irony of all this is when he played in his favored CM role he was often invisible, yet now, out of position, he's had some good games.
