Marchisio long vertical passes is so much more effective so i would like to see Marchisio starts as the DM just like the second half in dortmund match.when he play as DM he is one of the most influential players on the field and has really taken games by the Dominance at many occasions through out the season.

in my opinion, Vidal, Marchisio and Pogba can fill DM slot alternately .
depend on situation.
more unpredictable.

Marchisio can regain his top perform after he played as DM for some matches.
After back to CM position, he still has his best performance.

I hope, It will be same for Vidal.

@ zizinho, I disagree. Weirdly enough Marchisio is someone who used to be deadly as box to box CM when he was younger, but as he grown older his instinct for goal and runs has not been anywhere close to previous levels of his. It matters alot he is not playing with someone like Vucinic for past 2 seasons, takes away big time from opportunities he used to get, but still. Needless to say, he is ALOT better as DM, as someone said, pretty world class almost. As CM to the right or left in a trio, he is good, but not that integral to the team, his shots just outside the box or runs into it usually lead to very little, say compared to someone like Vidal who is super efficient in this role (or was). While in reverse, Vidal is VERY bad choice for the calculating and stationary role of a DM that Marchisio has shown he excells at, latter has the tactical patience and resilience to do this quiet role, while Vidal is all around action energy rocket that needs to be all over to effective.
Agree with all.

Vidal is a huge NO as DM, nothing in his skillset and mentality fits that role, passing wise, or reading of the game, mismatch. Needs to cover all ground and win possession in high octane fashion.

Pogba doesnt have the positioning to really be a DM (could barely move around to keep himself available for passes), he has played there for us past season and was very ordinary, also very unnecessary to limit one of the most dynamic and explosive players in the game to a boring defensive role. France does it most of the time and its complete waste IMO.

he played much more at btb this season and he has been one of our best performing players so far which says quite a lot imo. as a box to box, i like that he keeps performing on a constant level, he drops back to help Pirlo in creating attacks and passing the ball around, does his usual defensive work and space covering and is a threat with that outside shot and runs into the box (i agree, he isnt as good as he used to be at it). i wouldnt say hes not that integral to the team, simply because hes one of our 4 best midfielders (which are all starting btw.) and is capable to work under any adjustments the coach(es) do to the system, formation etc., but i generally think his role and contribution is underrated. i agree hes better at DM from what we have sen so far but not by THAT much and i feel like we have to see more of him there to get a better idea. now, i said he is amazing at both roles but that was more a fan-ish statement (though that wasnt that far off anyway :p). imo he is one of the best midfielders in the world, no matter the role

His game of keeping the mid tight, short passign to his nearest teammate, running endlessly and tackling is what is making him world class. When he was wasting time being "offensive" he was lacking and we suffered.

Yes he has an occassional good long shot...in fact, he is pretty consistant on those... but thats it. it has been proven he is not nearly as good offensively to be on the front..and as a B2B he tends to dissapear for patches in the game which is bad for us.

As a deep lying midfielder he has found success and has hardly put a foot wrong there. Theres no reason to change it

His ability to black opposition passing lanes, break up counter attacks and his highly underrated long passes make him invaluable for us as a DM. Should and will be his position for us for as soon as Pirlo leaves. Pretty much world class in that position. Such a tactically clever player.

He's good as a CM, world class as a DM.

Stamina is a feature that is born with the player... but damn, I could swear Marchisio at 25 yrs old couldn't do half the running he does now. It's really crazy the amount of ground he covers every game, his non stop running. EPO's maybe?

Also he has toughened up and has become a great tackler. He wasn't that good at that some years ago. He looked soft and fragile, I could never believe he could be a defensive anchorman one day. And developed great tactical and covering awareness and positioning.

This with his great passing with both feet, speed to carry the ball, quick decision making, surprise runs, great finishing and shooting outside the box...

He's the prototype of my ideal DM. Hopefully his body will hold up and he'll keep the level for more 3/4 years.

Marchisio has definitely matured, but his finishing has gone from great to horrendous.

And he's so handsome

Yep, his finishing totally diminished, first 3 years after Serie B he was pretty much as opportunistic goalscorer as a midfielder can get (without crazy Lampard levels lol), pretty much sniffed out chances and made it happen. Now besides that Cesena goal, I struggle to find instances where he actually shows the kind of instinct for goal he used to do on more regular basis.

I never thought he was that much of a finisher tbh. The past year or so he has just been playing much deeper and gotten less goalscoring chances and hence less goals in general. And even the year before that his runs have gotten fewer and fewer.

He was. I remember two very well taken goals against Fiorentina and Inter in particular. Marchisio used to be pretty good in front of goal. His shots from long range have become more precise though, so I guess it might even out.

He had instances of great finishes, but then again he also had some pretty desastrous misses. But yeah, his longshots do seem to have been improved.

Yes, its not as much about finishing more about how he found space and runs to get into these positions to finish. Used to be his best asset for years as CM, to just pop out of nowhere in the box and pounce it in. He kinda got a rhytm and instinct for it going. Nowadays yeah alot more quiet and stationary role, and the times he gets into these positions now, he misses more then he used to, prolly not as used to it as before since he doesnt move or play in the same way he used to, enough to get in form for it.
