After watching Asamoah today it has finally dawned upon me exactly how out of touch Zach's argument is. Asa just does it better, both ways. This isn't saying that we need to sell Marchisio, but I'm definitely in the "Get a LWB/LB" camp rather than going for Radja, Asamoah was truly something to behold today - he was playing the kind of offensive football that we haven't seen from Marchisio since mid 11/12, while he was just as good defensively.

He's miles ahead defensively, doesn't get pushed away like a rag doll and makes solid tackles. If you want to beat Asa with the ball, you better be brave and tough, coz he'll wrestle it off you like a bulldog.

Sorry, Nzo, no reasoned posts allowed. It's either "SELL!" or "Build a Statue in Front of Juventus Stadium". Those are your only choices. :p

I wouldnt expect Nicola to be part of the inferior peasant race, but before i open the hydrogen cyanide tanks, i'll assume he made a slight error, and will show him why.

Marchisio, is very good at holding the midfield. That means covering the space behind the aggressive players.
- With pirlo, he's usually covering behind vidal and asamoah
- Without pirlo, he's usually covering behind Pogba, Vidal, Asamoah.

Rarely, conte wants him to play more advanced. When he does people notice "oh look, marchisio is having a good day".

Today, Pogba was playing in the holding role. Asamoah and vidal were allowed to play offensively.
Pogba offcourse doesnt cover as good as marchisio, he likes to go in for the kill (i mean tackle) wich workes excellent against sassulo.
Against a good passing team, he would get raped incredibly hard.
This is why italian midfielders allways shone against spanish opponents. You dont have to tackle, if you positonning is perfect. The Maldini way.

So what you saw, was asamoah playing the role vidal (also today) or pogba could play.

Against tough opponents, juventus will allways need at least 1 holding midfielder.

WHY ? because if you dont a good passing team will just give 3 passes around your rabid chasing midfield, and then pass straight trough it. A holding midfielder that covers, makes sure this doesnt happen.

In that role, only Javi Martinez is superior

This isn't even a debate on whether Marchisio is a quality player -- whether it's a few weeks or two years.

Saying that someone should be sold purely on the basis of recent performances without considering teammates, backups, and sale price is 100% Zamparini-level idiocy through and through.

Even saying we should sell Marco Motta is Zamparini-level moronitude if you do not consider those other factors.
How can you know they're not considering those factors? :klin:

Personally i do consider other factors hence why i wouldn't sell him, especially us being half way thought the season, it'd be pure stupidity. Actually, selling anyone now would be stupid. Next season, that's a big maybe. But even then, no, if we can't find a better replacement.

Nobody is debating on whether he's got quality or not, it's obvious he does, he was one of the best mid in the world in that 11/12 season. The fact is that he's been pretty much a hit or miss after that season and seem to have lost his mojo. I'd consider, i say consider, selling him if he doesn't improve until the end of this Season.

Zach, you're out of breath and you need to put a sock in it - that analysis doesn't hold up. Honestly your attempts of giving Marchisio too much credit are nauseating. Its basically means this, assuming Pirlo is playing:

If Marchisio is starting on the left, then Conte has told him to play a defensive, covering dacdicality role.

If Pogba is starting on the left, then Conte has told him to play an offensive role.

Damn, if only Conte would stop hating Marchisio and just let his talent flow freely. The issue with Marchisio is that he definitely has the talent to shine, both defensively and offensively. He's a hard worker even when he doesn't play well, but that's where it stops with him. He reminds me of Matri in that way, in order to truly flourish and do everything he is supposed to then he really needs consecutive runs of games where he scores to boost his confidence.
