You can't really drop players into completely different eras & make assumptions on how they would do anyway. Say Marchisio was around 20-30 years ago, he could have been a totally different style of player back then based on what was the norm.

It's like people who try to compare Messi to Pele or Maradona & say one is 100% dead certain better than the others, you can't because there are other variables.

I could write a whole book on this but don't feel the need to do so i'll just let you with this: Talent is talent no matter what era. Some real WC players of the past would be considered gods among men if they played today. The only 2 things that can't really be compared is how better physically players are today (given that they get better medical facilities and high tech equipment) and their sharper tactical awareness.

Marchisio is not even one of the best of this generation in his position.

Maradona and Pele are definitely better than Messi. At least they won a World Cup, while that juiced up tax evading garden gnome needs his butt buddies Iniesta and Xavi to be fully functional

:agree: Marchisio is a very good player, a solid midfielder with a lot of positive traits and attributes, but world class he is not.

He lacks the talent, consistency, and dominating presence to be considered a truly WC player. Midfielders like Pirlo, Vidal, Iniesta, Schweiny, and Xavi have been consistent and influential throughout the years that they deserve such a label being attached to their name.

Marchisio isn't world class but suits what conte wants in his midfield...so it works for us. He wouldn't get a game at Barca or Bayern or even Real for that matter but still does the job for us. I really think Pogba will put a lot of pressure on him this season and we may see Marchisio play less than he has the past two seasons.

I doubt marchisio would get in the midfield of lippi back in the 90s or the early 2000's. He doesn't fall into the league of davids or deschamps as such.

 That's why i'm one of the ones who don't want him to go. When he's having a good day he can be a very hard worker and very good for us. And works quite well in our system in those good days. But WC, no. It's just that People get too carried away nowadays, anyone who can take the ball from A to B becomes top class overnight.

Well what I meant was, it's simplistic to assume things like football was slower back then so Marchisio would run circles around everyone & be a hero. He would probably be the same level of talent as he is in current times, but it might manifest differently to adjust to a different style.

And I agree, I think he is a good player, but definitely not WC.

I hope he'll become our next Captain after Gigi and get to see the likes of DelPiero84 burn from the inside.
 There is higher chance of asteroid hitting the earth and destroying every form of life than Marchisio becoming a captain one day.

You probably started watching Football in the 00's to make such a poor comment. In any other decade Marchisio would fight for a place on a bench of a big club. And this is coming from someone who likes him.
Calciopolli helped his career. Otherwise he would be plying his trade in mid/bottom table clubs.

You started the comparison. To be fair, you cant say how hed do, but players overall are physically much more fit nowadays.

"Pogba and Vucinic to start against Lazio." - Tuttosport

Comment form VS: http://www.vecchiasignora.com/topic...ogba-e-favorito-su-marchisio-dubbio-barzagli/

bene, Mirko e Pogba devono assolutamente giocare domenica

Pogba verosimilmente é già superiore a Marchisio.

Se andrea non dovesse farcela dentro Martin senza paura.

Buffon

caceres ogbonna chiellini

licht vidal pirlo pogba asa

Tevez vucinic
 No Bon bon.

Basta mettere Vidal, Pogba, Vucinic e Tevez in campo
Ormai Pogba sarà il titolare sempre, Marchisio dovrà abituarsi alla panchina molte volte.
Bonucci and Marchisio nowhere to be seen. Very few people like them these days. I wonder why is that? World class players.

also, if we have a midfield where Marchisio is our weakest link then thats still a fucking good midfield
Exactly  with the midfield you guys have, obviously he's going to look like crap compared to the rest of them. But he wouldn't necessarily be the weak link at another club (I'm not just talking about midtable clubs either).

Is he WC? No. Is he mediocre or shit in a general sense? Also no. Is he mediocre by Juve's current standards set by the rest of the team? ...maybe more likely to agree with that, but I still don't think he's SO bad that he deserves the hate he is getting from some people. But then again I'm not a Juve fan so perhaps I don't see some problems that others might.
