What would you rather do, B?

If it's not possible to get a good coach until the summer, this seems to me to be the best course of action.

Well of course they have to follow this route. But how much have they lost with these bad results? Paying an interim coach money & then wasting more time to find a suitable candidate is irresponsible.

Do you really think they won't pay Benitez the same amount that Guus was requesting?Chances are very strong that they will make a hash decision because of procrastination & pay astronomical fees to the next coach.

What Hiddink wanted, seemed to me to be a ridiculous amount of cash.

Benitez gets a more standard wage for a good coach.

If it was purely about wages, I think Juve could get Benitez. The problem is more likely to arise if Juve have to pay Liverpool to get Benitez out of his contract.

Well we don't know the exact amount & we don't know what Hiddink's stipulations to the BOD were. This is a results based business, you can't honestly say that they couldn't have given him performance bonuses to sweeten the deal.

Well apparently Benitez gets €5m & Guus wanted €7m.They're gonna pay an interim coach at maximum €500k,then we have to think about all the money lost with all those bad results.

From the CL exit to the end of December, they had ample time to find a replacement & get that coach to assimilate. It's a real circus act, total confusion & nobody to make tough decisions.

They've certainly acted too slowly, but that's my only real problem with how they've handled things thus far, with regards to replacing Ferrara.

I'm pretty sure that who ever becomes interim coach will become the coach to complete the 5yr project,if CL qualification is achieved.

'Gentile accepts Juve role' Thursday 28 January, 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Claudio Gentile has accepted an offer to replace Juventus Coach Ciro Ferrara after tonight's Coppa Italia match against Inter.

The 56-year-old, who made 283 appearances for Juventus between 1973 and 1984, left his home in Como yesterday morning for a two-hour meeting with former team-mate Roberto Bettega in Turin.

They discussed technical and tactical aspects of the team as well as the club's current economic situation. Gentile's criticism of Juventus in recent months was also conveniently forgotten.

Juventus apparently turned to Gentile when Giovanni Trapattoni, the Republic of Ireland manager, told John Elkann, the club's patron, that he wouldn't be able to return to Turin for a third stint in charge of the Bianconeri.

Trapattoni is said to have recommended Gentile and put them in touch with a phone call.

Gentile faces competition from Alberto Zaccheroni, but La Gazzetta dello Sport understands Juventus have offered him €250,000 for four months work plus bonuses for success in the Europa League and qualification for the Champions League.

The World Cup winner is believed to have accepted the role and will find out later today if the board have agreed upon his appointment.

Gentile has never coached a club side. His last job ended in 2006 with Italy's Under-21s. He likes to play 4-4-2 and is a bit of a drill sergeant, something Juventus's dressing room dearly needs at the moment.

The length of his prospective contract suggests Elkann wants to make a big name appointment in the summer with Rafa Benitez or Marcello Lippi at the top of the list.
Making the same mistake twice

Thats a big if, at the moment.

If the incoming manager manages to get the team to qualify for the Champions League they will deserve a great deal of credit.

he has never coached a club side, but at least he has been in charge of a club, be that the under 21 NT.

so he likes the 4-4-2 cuz it brings stability. So sell Melo and Diego and even Giovinco for that matter....

and they had the meeting in the car driving to turin....whats next, do transfers over tequilla shots in a local bar?

I know we cant get the best coaches, but at least have a plan B with someone who has experience and can turn shit around.
