Thats what Im saying we can play a more attacking style of football - It doesnt has to be "Gung-ho" - If we play the way City and PSG play we will surely win nothing... Conte said it best when losing 1-0 to City - He said Im not crazy enough to play like City vs City as they would win 3-0 4-0.. and there was some comparison to Arsenal..
HOWEVER playing a more attacking style doesnt has to be "gung ho" - Do you remember the Juve Barcelona final in 15 - I would say we played very nice despite losing - but again you have some point when saying our midfield is too dull for this to happen.
If only we could get Fabinho and SMS while keeping Pjanic and our important players
Conte is a good example of balanced footy even if rigid.
Thinking in terms of statistics...and common sense, a good balance between attack and defense gives you the best chance for a win. You make the most out of defense without sacrificing too much in attack, and you make the most out of attack without sacrificing too much in defense. But it also depends on the team you have. If you have weaknesses defensively - RB, RCB, CM in our case at start of the season - you have to address those weaknesses. We were dropping points like crazy at start of the season, but since the Samp game and with a more defensive setup, we went on a 12-game undefeated streak and conceded only 1 in the league.
And I think a lot of fans are overreacting based on the 1st leg (specifically, 30 mins in 1st half) vs Spurs. Just a month ago, we put 7 past Sassuolo. And last season, Allegri was far from overly defensive. Instead of focusing on what went wrong in a specific game, they are having memory lapses and panic mode kicked in.
I agree that at times, under Allegri, we're too reactive rather than proactive and taking the initiative. Recent Lazio game was another example of a reactive setup (but I think he wanted to drill the defense and also improve passing before the Tot'num game). Inter was there for the taking, but we didn't pounce. And in CL, vs Bayern, he subbed Morata out for a more defensive Mandzukic when Morata was reyping their defense single-handedly.
Our biggest issue right now is fitness, not our usual tactical approach since Samp game. Some key players are injured, and others look fatigued and are lacking in intensity. People are somehow confusing that with being overly defensive and forgot previous games and are unable to isolate the mistakes vs Spurs. Chaotic, unorganized mob with their pitchforks.
