Arrigo Sacchi maintains Juventus are the favourites to win their Champions’ League clash, but that Real Madrid are prepared for the challenge.

“Fabio Capello’s side are, along with Chelsea, the worst possible draw we could have had,” stated the Madrid director of football ahead of Tuesday’s first leg meeting.

“We are ready for this battle, even if we’re only a quarter of the way to becoming a great squad. Our Coach has only had six weeks to work with the team, so effectively we’re six months behind Juventus.”

Brazilian boss Wanderley Luxemburgo seems to have turned their season around, though he has clashed with Ronaldo over tactics and Il Fenomeno’s tardiness.

Madrid lost 2-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao this weekend and Michel Salgado is a doubt to feature on Tuesday.

The Bianconeri are still unbeaten in Europe, but their overall form has dipped considerably in the time since the Champions’ League group phase was completed. Some of that is down to the absence of Pavel Nedved, who is a doubt for the Bernabeu game due to that knee injury.

“Nedved is a player I have always admired,” continued former Italy and Milan Coach Sacchi. “I tried to sign him at every club I ran and really respect him. If the Czech midfielder is on the field, then that will be an extra problem for us.”

Meanwhile, former Real Madrid boss Capello has looked to the Spaniards and sparked more transfer gossip.

“Raul is an exceptional player that always makes the difference,” said the Juve Coach. “I know him well and won the Liga title with him in the side. I’m sure he’d settle in quickly to Serie A football and wouldn’t hesitate to sign him.”

David Trezeguet won’t make the trip to Madrid, though Pavel Nedved is in the squad, while Andriy Shevchenko could miss the second leg against Manchester United.

The French international also missed Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Messina with a bout of flu and he has still not recovered from the virus.

Juventus medical staff claim he is in no condition to travel, so Trezeguet will remain in Turin, ensuring Alessandro Del Piero partners Zlatan Ibrahimovic upfront. Paolo Montero and Olivier Kapo are also staying behind.

There was some good news for Fabio Capello, as Nedved is included in the side flying out to Spain for the first leg of the knockout round against Real.

The 2003 European Player of the Year has not set foot on the field since suffering a sprained knee in late January, but is back in training.

Nonetheless, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to start the encounter at the Bernabeu Stadium, so Capello could be forced into another tactical reshuffle.

Milan also have some serious injury worries going into the Champions’ League ties, as Andriy Shevchenko (pictured) fractured his cheekbone during an accidental clash of heads with Simone Loria in last night’s 1-0 win over Cagliari.

The Ukrainian was released from hospital this morning after staying overnight for observation and tests, but he’ll be back in on Monday for surgery.

Reports suggest he will need a titanium plate put in to reduce the fracture, so it’s unlikely he’ll be back on the playing field before Easter. This would rule Shevchenko out of both Champions’ League legs against Manchester United.

“We won’t actually know the extent of the injury or the time it will take to recover until after surgery,” revealed the chief of Milan medical staff Jean Pierre Meersseman.

“We also have to take the psychological aspect into account, as Shevchenko has already undergone surgery on his nose and lip over the last year.”

Juventus squad: Buffon, Ferrara, Tacchinardi, Pessotto, Emerson, Ibrahimovic, Del Piero, Nedved, Chimenti, Birindelli, Camoranesi, Appiah, Zambrotta, Blasi, Thuram, Bonnefoi, Olivera, Zalayeta, Zebina, Cannavaro

plus, zlatan is gonna go alllllll out and olivera will create a few chances. with del piero on form and a few loose cannons in our side, it should be good!

This is the most expected, I won't mind seeing Zalayeta start head of Zlatan though
And I hope Neddy can take his place back too

i think Juve have to think about winning and only winning
after last night match between Real and Bilbao i think it should be clear for CRAPello that real defence is really suffering and an easy one to beat(although we couldnt beat the 2nd worst defence in serie a last night)specially the wings ,,,i mean to concentrate on Raul Bravo (if am not mistaken) and Roberto Carlos who is shaky this season (by the way is he going to play)
Well Said Dr....I've been saying this most of the time, Real Madrid in General not only Bravo and Carlos but all of them are shaky, so Capello should have the balls to put it a bit to offence....what do you think?

Ronaldo has looked worthless in the past couple matches, being almost nonexistent. Raul was involved, more so than Ronaldo, but his game was not really clicking with the rest of the team. Beckham looked worthless as usual out there, and Zidane was the only player making any sense. Their loss to Bilbao today was deserved, and it should have been 3-0. Real looks more pathetic than Juve right now.
This is what i call great news, thanks Andy...
