i just saw the game, it we replayed so i had to wait for it and delay my sleep for a couple of hrs(thank god no uni until 5 today)
here is wat i think
Overall we did well, the team did wat is expected from it, especially after that very beautiful goal by bremen.
We made many many chances before trezi's goal, Weise was just sensational, he did everything.And then just blew it all off.
Ppl who say we didnt deserve the win? i will have to disagree..making that much chances and possesion of the ball and then we didnt deserve to win.The chances would got r soo many, and they only got 3 or 4 and half of those r real chances.
The negative part of the 1st half was the offsides, in the 2nd half there were some that wrong decisions by the ref, and could've been real chances and one-on-ones with the keeper..especially the ones where neddy forced weise for that sensational save, and trezi headed the rebound to the goal
So IMO the team did well, and needed a bit of luck and we got it .
No we earned that luck.
-Now to tactics
IMO cap started with the right formation but the wrong personnel...Alex was supposed to start.. i know that for sure now.Ibra was just very bad, i dont know wats his problem lately.
Balza for zebina- although jonathan played an almost perfect defensive game, we would've needed balza there to get forward more.
Now i say its the right formation for this game and i meant the whole game.Becuz basicallly if we play with the more attacking formation(notably the 4-3-3) camo or neddy would have to sit this one out. And i think both r vital in the midfield.
Another point is that we all established that bremen r a very good attacking side and could cause us more problems than they did.So going on an attacking formation would be something close to suicide.And with the same 4-4-2 e created soo many chances on goal, from open play and set pieces.So i think its the right idea to use the 4-4-2
now to the players :
Gigi: Cant do much abt the goal, but did very well to save the little chances that bremen had.
Canna
id extremely well but was caught out of position a couple of times, but overall solid as usual and kept the bremen attackers silent.
thuram:also did extremely well but again wsa caught out of position, but for him it cost us a goal.. (but i dont blame him as it was a well worked goal)overall great game
zebina
layed up to his capabilities offensively and tried his best, defensively he was solid..takes part of the blame for the goal, but overall he did his best and that more than good enough for me.
zambro:Anyone who says this guy is the best full-back in the world should think again...putting a world class performance like this one after coming back from injury.I just hope he isnt injured badly..He played like a true fighter .
Patrick Viera:Hes been really disappointing me for a long time..and this game is nothing new.Played fairly well in the 1st half but the 2nd he was completely out of the game.
Emo- puma played a great game today and showed a high spirit, fought for every ball on his side and every ball on viera's side.Goodthing that he quick refelexes to kick the ball that fast after weise spilled it.Even had a nice volley near the end that could've went in ( but weise) denied him with a great save.Should've done better with the rebound from weise in the 1st half though, not just shooting straight at the keeper.Overall great game.
Camo- quiet night for him.. Defensively did better than offensively.....expected a better performance in such a big game.
neddy-reminded me of the old neddy, fought for everything and gave the team his heart and soul with a 110% effort. Great game.
Ibra- Out of order these days i think , not only these days but for a long time now...i didnt see a good performance by him in a long time now.And still he lets his frustration take the best of him.He has the record for the most offsides in the CL, and he still gets held by the trap soo many times.In his defence though there was this one time where he wasnt offside and could've been one-on-one with weise.Could've scored from that volley from close range but didnt.In most cases he was always in a hurry to do something.. anything , that he didnt even kknow.If he stopped to think for a min or two before running or shooting or anything, then he would've had a better outing.Overall very ppor match.
Trezi- never seen trezi run that much or have soo much passion for one game.He going everywhere in the front line, didnt get that of chances except his goal.He was caught offside a couple of times though.But he gave it 110% today and scored a goal.Overall very good match.
alex:didnt do that much in the game but just as azzuri said his prescence is felt on the field and his understanding with trezi and neddy shows. He tried his best given the time he had, soo that good enough for me.
mutu: never was in the game fully, had a very nice free-kick shot at goal but somehow weise got it out.Didnt do that much overall.
balza:had some runs forward but am guessing he was a bit nervous( who wont)and i showed in the time he was on the field, but he didnt do any major mistakes and even had a few runs forward.Not bad for a young player given the circumstances.
Don Fabio Capello:Well i wasnt happy with the personnel but i was happy with the formation.
I liked the way he gave camo and neddy free roles in midfield, both of them gave baumann a tough job.So thats was something many didnt predict and was very usefull.
IMO the only mistakes were his starting 11, nothing else.Balza was supposed to start as well as alex.
With that very infamous 4-4-2, the players had the ability to create soo many chances and minimise the threat of a very good attacking side.
And also the team was great when dealing with crosses and set-pieces, and that was our problem last time.Overall he did very well
One of the most tense matches I've seen, praying for the result.
