Match review:
Juve enter a match with a must win situation.Capello decides on the starting 11. Surprises are found. WHY THE HELL ZEBINA? That was my first impression. During this season Zebina has featured in 4 matches in the serie A. All of them not 90 minutes, and couple only 20 min. He was injured. We risk such a player in such a tight match where you need 1000000% fit players. Why? I usually do not like to question great coaches because I know that there are things that let them act the way they do. Things that affects their decisions. But tonight I will question his decisions. Because his decisions was going to get us kicked out of the CL race (his so called primary objective). Last match against Samp, Balzaretti and Zambrotta played. They were ok. Why not field them tonight as well. Put Luca on the right and Balzaretti on the left. He also kept our most inform striker on the bench. Fieling Zlatan and Trezeguet, who are both coming out of injuries and missed last Saturday's match. So now we have 3 not fully fit players.

The match started and from the first minute you can tell that there is something wrong in the centre of the field. Maoro and Pavel were drifting too much to the inside to pick up the balls where "someone" should be doing this job for them. Obviously, Bremen controlled the midfield. They also controlled the flanks thanks to unfit Zebina and drifts of Maoro to fill in the gap in the midfield.
After 15 min it was clear. It's Vieira that is screwing things up in the midfield. Thuram looked really uncertain of his position. Where Fabio was not that impressive. Due to the fact the the midfield is not working. We started doing our classical boring and useless long balls. Zlatan tried. But he is not well in form PLUS he is not fully fit. As the minuites went by trezeguet faded away inside the Bremen deffense due to lack of support. Zambrotta was trying so hard but the players also did not help. He was running up and down the left flank like crazy.
Then from their first attack on our target. Vieira fails to return back to deffense. Zebina is lost and Thuram is not concetrated a 1 on 1 with buffon --> goal.
You think, ok we will show them now. You are wrong. We did not. We continued playing our pethetic long balls till the ref called half. 45 min of useless crap.
You'd expect that in HT Capello will take out Vieira and rbing in any other player to fill in the gap he is doing. Again you're wrong again. Same 11 continue to play. We start again with long balls which are useless. Then we shift slowly to more proper passing.
After 15 min of 2nd half. Capello thinks its time to do something. Now I have to give it him. He could've entered player, instead he replaced two players. Del Piero and Mutu are on the line waiting to come in. You come to think, Capello will replace Vieira and one of the strikers. Nooooo. He takes out Camoranesi and the clearly unfit for the match, yet had tried alot (we thank him for his hardwork), Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The team starts to play better. On the ground passes. Better creativity and chances. We waisted alot of chances. Trezeguet got 3 easy headers which he wasted. Emerson wasted an easy shot so did nedved.
We score a goal after a nice play. A ball comes to Alex and single touch to Trezeguet, a single touch to Nedved who is 1 on 1 with the keeper --> leaves it to David to shoot and score.
Capello decides to go for his third sub. Takes out Zambrotta and brings in Balzaretti. Immediatel Balzaretti showed his worth. He showed that he is a great player.
We continue on wasting chances till 2 min from the end when mutu crosses the ball the keeper fails to catch it properly and Emerson kicks it in to the goal.

End score.. 2-1.

Ratings
Buffon: Not tested very much except for one which needed a buffon to knock it out. Thank you. Thuram screwed up infront of the goal and buffon saved our asses. He takes no blame on the goal. For that I give him 7.
Zebina: Started off terribly. Then improved a bit in the last 30 min of the match. 5.5
Thuram: Lost. 5.0
Cannavaro: Partially lost 5.5
Zambrotta: MOM in the first half 7
Camoranesi: Tried, but midfield, especially Vieira was out of the question. With Also Zebina on his side you can't really blame him alot. 6
Vieira: Trashy performance 1 (1 because we won, otherwise it wouldve been 0)
Emerson: Started off sloppy, gained his performance as game went through. Wasted a stupid chance. Scored a very important lucky ball. 7
Nedved: Ran alot, an ok performance. Wasted some easy chances. 6.5
Zlatan: Tried also, but clearly unfit for the match 6
Trezeguet: Wasted alot of headers. Did not participate in the play during the fist hour. Played a good end 30 min when Del Piero and Mutu came in. You come to think that the problem was midfield supply. Scored an important goal. 6.5
Del Piero: Not a very brilliance performance from Alex. Did not have alot of time. The midfield was terrible. Managed to make the team player proper passes. Caused trouble to Bremen deffense. Trezeguet came alive, 6.5
Mutu: Ok performance.. 6.5
balzaretti: Although played around 15 min. But played them from his heart. Not a single mistake and pushed forward. Great man. 6.5

Capello: We won. But he will have to go thank Bremen's keeper. Bad starting line up. Not bad changes. 5.5

In summary: Rremen is a terrible team. They are not brilliant at all. Their deffense is weak and their goalkeeper is just luck that we are shooting in his face. We could've ended the away match with atleast 5 goals in our favour but we didn't. We could've ruled this match if fielded proper formation but we didn't. If we continue like this we will not win the CL. Fielding unfit players while infrom healthy players are on the bench. To tell you the trith, I respect you Capello but this is not looking good.
One more thing, Vieira is a flop.

Capello: Fortune favours the brave Tuesday 7 March, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello and Emerson admit they were rescued by a goalkeeping error, but insist Juventus deserved to go through.

“Bremen are a good side and we mustn’t forget that, especially as the Germans are fresh from a long Winter break and physically strong anyway. We knew they weren’t all that good in defence, but the goalkeeper performed miracles before luck finally turned our way,” said the Coach after the 2-1 win in Turin qualified them on away goals, 4-4 on aggregate.

The Bianconeri were repeatedly caught in Bremen’s offside trap and eventually broke through with David Trezeguet before Emerson’s last-gasp winner.

“Evidently, our desire to score at all costs made us too hasty and we made some mistakes in the final ball and in our movement. We needed to change our style a little, but the team played well overall and admittedly got through thanks to a goalkeeping error.”

Tim Wiese had been heading for a Man of the Match award after a series of stunning saves, but it was his howler that allowed Juve to win.

“He was following Oliver Kahn’s style of rolling around, it seems to be a German trend. These things can happen, but as a Coach I tend to get more irritated by tactical mistakes than fumbles,” added Capello.

The tactical changes after 55 minutes saw Alessandro Del Piero and Adrian Mutu replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mauro Camoranesi.

“Ibrahimovic is carrying a knee problem and hasn’t been training regularly, while Del Piero has played a lot recently and wasn’t 100 per cent either, but he is very good at springing the offside trap. As for Camoranesi, Mutu is faster and I needed his pace to again try to break that system of theirs.”

Patrick Vieira was singled out for criticism from the Italian Press for his recent performances, but Capello insisted it was undeserved.

“I think that Vieira played well tonight. I see that people have focused on him too much, exaggerating praise when he first arrived and over-doing the criticism now. He made a few mistakes, but so did everyone tonight.”

Villarreal also pushed past Glasgow Rangers on away goals, while Barcelona knocked out Chelsea 3-2 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp.

“The knock-out rounds are all very tough and played at a high tempo against teams of great quality. They probably paid the price for the first leg and Barca have players of incredible talent like Ronaldinho,” concluded Capello.

Emerson scored the winner in the final minute when he pounced on a goalkeeping howler, but admits the real hero was Fabio Cannavaro.

“I honestly hadn’t noticed he’d dropped it, but Cannavaro shouted at me and I looked down to see the ball at my feet! Thankfully, I had time and was close enough to turn,” confessed the Brazilian.

It was a disappointing first half and the midfielder agrees that it must serve as a lesson to them.

“We took the wrong approach from the start.:)( capello and his tactics:faq2: ) We have to change the way we go into Champions League matches, as in this competition you are punished at the first error. Nonetheless, we created a dozen chances and the goalkeeper performed miracles, so it’s not as if this win was undeserved.”

There was a noticeable tension about their performance, which only intensified after Johan Micoud gave Bremen a 4-2 aggregate lead after just 13 minutes.

“There is always a sense of worry, as we had to win to qualify and Bremen scored early on, but this is a team that proved it has character and never gives in.”

Cannavaro also gave his side of the story when recounting that incredible last-gasp goal.

“Emerson had his back to the ball, so I shouted ‘Puma!’ and thankfully he heard me and managed to score! We all knew how important this game was, but our tempo was slow and Bremen closed up all the spaces, so all we could do was play the long ball.

"We were nervous after what happened last season against Liverpool, but we found a victory nobody was expecting at that point. We may not be all that sharp at the moment, but this side tends to come out in the second half and make a difference.”

Director Antonio Giraudo admitted he was holding his breath in those closing stages.

“It was a very exciting finale and thankfully at the final whistle we achieved a very important result. The goalkeeper was over-doing it all night! He performed some incredible saves, but perhaps made the mistake of thinking he was invincible at that stage of the game. It would’ve been a heavy sporting and financial blow if we had gone out, as the Champions League is one of our primary objectives this season.”

Some ratings you slags

Buffon 6: Few casual saves, other than that picked the ball out the net.

Zambrotta 6.5: Sexy in the first half, only one with any impetus, injury got better of him eventually.

Canna 6 :Would have been much better had we not conceded. Other than the goal they didnt get thru much for a solely attacking side. Quite solid and the effort was there, just fell asleep on the goal. His concentration is key.

Thuram 7: He is the personification of calmness and experience. Great tackling and good passing. Calm under pressure.

Zebina 6: Had a lively first half, he and camo had some awful attempts at linking up. Stayed back in the 2nd half.

Camo 5: Can be so creative and skillful, was not in it at all tonight and this kind of drastic dip in form could cost us.

Vieria 6: Had a shaky 1st half but took up a defensive role in the 2nd and didnt give much away. Played the simple pass and played calmly towards the end. His rating is an average of his entire game.

Emerson 7: His rating is higher because of the goal, but he was one of the players that showed up tonight. Goos tackling, good passing, and always looked to increase the teams urgency and deserved his moment tonight. Missed a howler in the 1st half.

Nedved 7.5: Best player this evening, he was involved in everything. He made tackles, passes and forced that damn keeper into some stunning saves. Not an excitable performance, Nedved did all the hard graft tonight. MOM.

Trezeguet 6.5: Got his goal and was always looking to be given service. He was a constant threat and was urging the team to get forward to ge the goals. MUST watch the offsides though.

Zlatan 5: His touches didnt come off, he missed his chances and was constantly offside. There are remnants of a good player, but I gather his fitness and form-dip were always going to restrict him tonight.

Subs:

Balzaretti 6.5: Solid when he came on, good tackles and clearences. Burst forward when he good and slotted in with the side with good passing. A fantastic young option for us.

Mutu 6.5: Just creeps into a high rating. He was lively, driving forward the team and made camo look like a gaping hole. You just get the feeling he gives his all and more for this team, his only problem being as a winger now his final ball is poor. Had a nice free-kick well saved though.

Del Piero 6: Too many flicks from Alex tonight, like we were 3-0 up, but he started the move for the goal and it has been proved tonight that the team plays a lot better when he is on the pitch. The crowd are much more up for it too, plus he stopped us from being flat against their back four and brought the play deeper where we could create.

Capello: Do we love him or hate him? I don't think any of us know. We keep winning for some reason.
Wow looking at these grades who would have thought that it needed a goal keeping error to put us through. Thuram 6.5 is that a joke? Take off 1 and 2 points from most of them and you get my grades for each player

well...first of all congratulation for everybody. a very important win. The world was gonna end for me, if we had lost this game. this win is so emotional... I started to cry after the goal..:weee:

but then it is a shame, how we started this match, no determination and no power. the only posivtive aspects were the good chances we had after corners. in the second half we finaly started to play with determination and power, and I think we deserved this win. I saw an interview from Emerson, he said this a sign that we won this way. We are gonna hurt other teams in this CL.

I guess we have some great problems from tactical point of view. we were not able to deal with the pressing of werder in the first half. this problem must be solved if we wanna win the CL.

forza JUVE

guyz - go and celebrate !!! If their keeper was'nt operating on some spiritual principality, we would have given them 5+. The whole world is saying that he was on course 2 b the man of the match - so that definately means we were doing our best....
