Champions League - 07 Mar 2005 - 1:06 PM

On the way to Juventus vs Real Madrid

The last 16’s second leg fixture in Champions’ League against Real Madrid, scheduled on Wednesday, March, 9th, is the first ultimate match in Juventus’s season.

The Bianconeri have to turn the first leg match’s 1-0 over, a challenge already won by Juventus in the past: just think about March, 20th 1996 at the Delle Alpi when Del Piero and Padovano made the goal scored by Raul at the Bernabeu vain and made way to conquering the Champions’ League.

The most recent precedent dates back to May, 14th 2003: that’s when Juventus gave the Merengues a real lesson, getting rid of the 2-1 conceded in the first leg match with the goals scored by Trezeguet, Del Piero and Nedved. Pavel can’t take part to the match this time, due to the injury he’s suffered after the hard collision with Raul Bravo in the match played on February, 22nd.

The Czech’s is a heavy absence, which, however, Del Piero & C. have proved to handle, like they did when they lately beat AS Roma in the home championship. Real, on the contrary, was held in the Liga to a 1-1 against Valencia, although they have recovered Ronaldo’s brilliance, scorer of the draw.

On their side, Juventus will have an extra weapon: Wednesday’s match will be played on a different stage, in an sold-out and all-Bianconero Delle Alpi, willing to push Capello’s squad towards a new, exciting venture.

Alex hails ‘ugly’ victory Monday 7 March, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alessandro Del Piero has admitted that Juventus’ win at Roma wasn’t a great spectacle for the game.

The Bianconeri collected a precious 2-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, but the match was marred by too many fouls and some unsavoury challenges.

"There was too much nervousness out there," the Turin captain explained via his official website.

"A little bit of everything went on during the match, and the tension on the field produced 72 fouls, far too many for a game of football."

It may not have been the greatest advert for Italian football but Del Piero, who was also slapped by Leandro Cufre in the encounter, was thankful for the points.

"In any case, we collected three indispensable points in order to keep up with Milan," added the Italian.

"There is no doubt now that it will be a fight until the very end with the Rossoneri, as we have again demonstrated that we want the Scudetto as much as they do."

However, Alex is archiving the title race for now given the imminent arrival of Real Madrid in the Champions’ League.

"It is inevitable that we are already focused on the game against the Merengues," he continued.

"We will be asked to give our very best and even more. We can go through but only if we play a perfect game."

Juventus, who play the Spaniards on Wednesday at the Delle Alpi, lost the first leg 1-0 after Ivan Helguera netted the only goal of the game.

Zidane fears Zlatan factor Monday 7 March, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Real Madrid ace Zinedine Zidane feels that his side must stop Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they are too eliminate Juventus from the Champions’ League.

Real go into Wednesday’s last 16 clash with a 1-0 first leg advantage, but the former Bianconeri hero is concerned about the ability of Juve’s Swedish striker.

"Juventus fear us but we must go into the game with our eyes open," stated the Frenchman.

"We must respect them as a team, all of them from Alessandro Del Piero to Jonathan Zebina.

"I’m worried about the whole side but Ibrahimovic is a player who at this moment in time is doing really well."

Zidane was a doubt for the Delle Alpi return but he’s recovered from injury along with Michael Owen and Raul.

"I’m feeling good," added the former Old Lady playmaker. "I’ve been rested from action for 10 days but I’ve been working hard in that time. I can’t wait for the game."

Zidane is also confident that his side know what is needed in order to reach the quarter-finals.

"We are going to Turin with the aim of scoring a goal and I think we will do that," added the midfielder.

"If we don’t concede in the first 30 minutes then I think we have a great chance of getting a positive result.

"I expect Juventus to be very offensive and they will only defend when necessary. That suits us as we will have more space."

Juve look likely to be a threat in front of goal with reports suggesting that they will start the game with a trident attack.

Del Piero and Ibrahimovic look certain to start, while David Trezeguet and Marcelo Zalayeta are in contention for the third attacking shirt.

I have not read any news that Neddy is fit, but it would be a great boost for the team! anyway with or without him, we can qualify its up to the WHOLE team not the only one!

forza Juventus
