comments: I liked the one from Van der Vaart

Fabio Capello, Juventus coach
It was a good match played by two teams at a high tempo. I wanted my players to react to the defeat in the [Italian] Cup at Atalanta BC and they did exactly what I asked them to do. I was very satisfied with the performances of [Alessio] Tacchinardi, [Paolo] Montero and Zalayeta, all of whom have not played many games this season. We defended very well and did not risk much against a good side like Ajax, and I thought we deserved to win.

Ronald Koeman, Ajax coach
It is frustrating to lose like that. We made a single mistake and Juve punished us. This is not the first time this has happened to us. We need to improve and review this kind of mistake. I thought we played well after the goal but it was not enough. We created a great opportunity with [Ryan] Babel's shot but failed to score. Now our only hope is to qualify for the UEFA Cup, but I did not think we had a chance to progress in the Champions League even before tonight. At least it's down to us - we know we have to beat Bayern.

Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus goalkeeper
At this stage the team is very well balanced and in great condition. Everyone is prepared to sacrifice themselves and fight for the team. We also have several quality players who can turn a game.

Rafael van der Vaart, Ajax midfielder
I think Juve defended very well and made it very difficult for us to score. In my opinion they have the best defence in Europe right now. They score one goal and the game is over.

we are following more or less greece's example from euro.
What packing all ten men in our own penalty area, being completely dominated for 90 mins, luckily having our opponent's best player injured and scoring a late winner from a set piece?

Whoopy! :D

One player for the future might be this Ryan Babel kid for Ajax. Only at 17, he has a good touch and looks strong for his age. Possibly a bright future ahead of him.

Um, well I'm not sure about the penalty. I do not even remember a time when Ajax had the ball settled in Juve's box during the whole match. The red for Montero that spectators might have called for was when Paolo pushed van der Vaart's face away from his, but it did not deserve a red. Camoranesi looked like he handled the ball in the middle of the park, but again not much there.

It is not a compliment to say such a thing... we are controlling the game, Greece were destroying the game and defending all the time..

Montero and Camo deserved a red-card?QUOTE]

Well, van der Vaart made a horrible foul on Montero, for which he should have received straight red IMO. Then Montero reacted, which could have been red as well. Minutes later, Camoranesi was running next to van der Vaart, looked where the ref was and kicked him down. Now that's team spirit!

A lot of good that did, only to be defeated by the mighty Greece barely having fired a shot on goal.

Yes I'm still sore about Euro04. WC02 as well for that matter. :lazy:
