A series of embarrassing blunders in the Bayern Munich rearguard handed defensive Juventus a 1-0 victory in Champions' League Group C on Wednesday evening.
Alessandro Del Piero was on hand to seal victory late on for the Italians after Zlatan Ibrahimovic made idiots of home defenders Willy Sagnol and Torsten Frings, and goalkeeper Oliver Kahn fumbled the Swedish striker's shot.
The Germans had earlier dominated the encounter and hit the bar when midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger drove a piercing shot that cannoned off the underside of the woodwork and bounced agonisingly on to the Juventus goalline. In the ensuing scramble, Claudio Pizarro bundled the ball into the net, but was one of three Bavarian players in an offside position.
The Peruvian had earlier been denied by the impressive Gianluigi Buffon, who also made a timely fingertip save from barren striker Roy Makaay in injury time.
The result means Juventus are certain winners of Group C, while Bayern must now see off Maccabi Haifa in Munich on Matchday 5 to seal qualification.
