My line-up for the second leg:

Buffon
Biri - Thuram - Legro - Zamboy
Camo - Tacchi - Nedved - Appiah
Miccoli/Di Vaio - DP

That is a pretty attack-minded lineup, and it should put at least 2 past depor. By the way, i agree, and i have said this before... its not the defense, its the midfield thats causing problems for juve this year. we cant just keep control of the ball. that was our BIGGEST problem the other night. Hopefully Lippi saw the problem and will work on it.

denco, I guess we were right though I take no pleasure in being proven so. To those who said we'll get it right by January coz its a 'given', well its March soon and that traditional strong finisher tag hasn't materialized, has it?

After 2/3rds gone in this season, I get the feeling that Lippi's much vaunted 'rotation' policy really translates into doing the absolute minimum in hopes of reaping the maximum. However, at this point, I have doubts as to whether the minimalist attitude we see are actually by choice.

In the collective sense, the defence has a problem, mediocre at most but hardly as bad as it is made out to be. The attack basically has everything but never lived up to their potential. Most importantly, the midfield is simply a joke. If the guys in there were like strangers to each other before, (I've seen better understanding among kids after playing 3 matches together), they've gone 1 better to being basically clueless now. The whole damn team has been playing like a bunch of individuals this season. Individual brilliance has largely been the basis of our success this season. What do we do when we run out of it? That question was rather unpopular when it was raised by some of us earlier in the season in which Juve kept getting the results regardless of whether they deserved it or not. We have the answer now.

And on individuals again, I have to defend Appiah here. He tried, which is more than I can say for at least half of the team on the field. It also raises another question : why oh why is our failure rate with good players so damn high? Appiah, like so many before him, is unrecognizable from the player he once was (and that wasn't very long ago either) Likewise Miccoli. Then you see people like DP, Nedved and Trez getting worse all the time, playing to like 10% of their ability and wonder what the hell is wrong with them. This cannot be a coincidence.

No, something else is very wrong.

The best perspective one can get is to borrow a video of a match from the 96-98 era and compare it with now. Same competitions, same coach, even better players but much much worse off. We had a cohesive team then. I can't say the same for now.

slack, agree 100% about everything. About the attack not living up to its expectations, midfield being non-existant, and about Appiah!! That's a real man that gives his best on the field......and one bad week or hell even month, people want him off the team.

i heard a few ppl saying monaco put 8 past depor.....guys, guys, guys.....need i remind u that monaco lost 2-0 in the riazor?? :D that 8-3 mauling was on the return leg.

having sed that, i believe we're in a serious sh*t. we must score 3 goals to be safe. but somehow, i dont remember when was the last time we scored that many goals against quality opposition (sociedad was the last one). forget last season, this season's team is no where near that. i am 50-50 on this, i want juve to go thru......but at the same time i think it's best that our journey end next 2weeks.

but i hope lippi can work out things esp the mid. even if......if we're going out, i dont want us to go without a fight. forza juve...!

@Hydde, Appiah did not play as badly as you are making out as if you go and watch the first half again you would find out he played very well and as for passing the ball he has never been gr8 at that anyways so I don't know why you guys are acting like this is just a new phenomenon
I guess you are dissapointed with the result but lets not go looking for scapegoats on a young player just because he is not box office

Explain to me how the darling of everyone, Nedved , can be so imcompetent , that he miscontrols the ball almost everytime he is given it

How on earth can Andrade take the ball from Dp in his own half, run the full length of the pitch without a single challenge from a Juve player till he passed to Valeron in our box

How is it that we would have a goal kick and the cameraman would go to a replay and by the time he comes back in seconds we have given the ball away and this happened almost thruout?

How can with our track record this season, not tried more to score a goal instead of waiting for mistakes from Depor's defence, as I don't see us shutting out Depor if we do score against them

Stats actually said we had more of the ball than Depor, but we did nothing with it almost thruout

How can every attacking player on our side be so out of form almost throut the seaon

@Nina, was injury the reason why Iuliano would play in 1 match, then it is Leggrotaglie, then its Ferrara, then its Montero or why Camoranesi would play one week then out the other

Good point. Even when there are up to 6 players who were garbage in any given match, certain ones will always end up as the fallguy without fail. I think we have just about completed a whole cycle here in proposing who to sell ... if this forum had its way, there'll be no outfield player left by now. Its quite sad that most of the appreciative fans of Juve players aren't Juve fans themselves.

In my case - I don't base my opinions on just one game.

I'm not against Appiah or Tacchinardi for no reason, the fact that they are often our centre midfield pairing - fills me with dread. Their performance was dire the other night and deserves a lot of the opinions stated here.

It's all very well people saying that at least Appiah tries, that may be enough for amateur football or football in the park - but this is the latter stages of the Champions League, which is our main target for the season. Saying he was alright because he tried is ridiculous. Trying hard isn't good enough on it's own, someone who misplaced at least half of their passes cannot have played 'alright'!

Appiah's recent performances have been very poor, along with Tacchi's, and all I am saying is that to have those 2 as our midfield partnership and to still have some hope of winning the CL is crazy.

I think that's enough from me on this.

Let's look forward to the Ancona game, and if Tacchi and Appiah are playing, lets hope it's a good performance!

THIS TEAM SUCKS !!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe what I saw.......

That had to be one of the top 5 WORST performances that I've seen Juve ever play !!!!

No defense, no midfield, and NO offense !!!!!!

Let me get this straight, Monaco puts 7 past Depor, and our Italian "champions" cant even get one ???? WHAT THE F**K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen amateur teams pass the ball better than our pathetic team

Out-muscled, out-hustled, out-played......END OF STORY !!!!!!

Our only 2 chances of the game saw DP miss an absolute sitter, and Miccoli choke on a breakaway..... What gives ???

Lippi said our guys were concentrating on the CL, but thats complete bullshit !!!!

So much for the away goal, Lippi, whats your next move ???!!!

P.S.- thanks for throwing away Davids, that was the bonehead move of the season !!!!!!
ironic,but UNFORTUNATELLY soooo true.....

i was sure we wouldn't do much better in cl.
it's simpossible for a team that doens't play it's best in serie A to play fantastic in cl.....i am sorry about juve cause that's not what we deserve.
that's NOT the juventus i used to know.
yesterday i saw the match juve-deportivo and my heart broke...
i don't understand what happened to our players in 1 summer!!!!!

ok.it was stupid.but even keeping del piero let's say....do you see that he is playing with passion and so amazing as we all believe he COULD??

I don't think we have anybody else who has reliably proven to hack it in the middle. In any case, Lippi wants the team to play this way and nobody really knows why.

I'm not trying to excuse his performance but to be fair, Appiah wasn't the only one out there who stunk up the field. Why should he be singled out for particular criticism then? The whole team was crap, with him and most probably will be without him. Perversely, the fact that he actually gave a damn could have contributed to him being one of the most obvious. That doesn't necessarily mean he's the worst. The whole point is why is Appiah and half the team performing like garbage more often than not? It can't always be the players' faults since we see the same thing happen with different people. I'm sure you watched enough games to know that has been the story of this season.

Amateur football? There's been plenty of that so far. I don't know why Lippi is proclaiming the CL to be the main target coz until now, it merely looks like an excuse to play rubbish. But that'll end soon. Right now, this Juve has no business talking about CL aspirations on the back of their showings so far. They want it? Then prove it.

Maybe I am singling out Appiah and Tacchi, I think it's because the defence has had so much stick - this game really showed me that the defensive midfielders aren't protecting the defence.

The defence hasn't been good as we all know, but Appiah and Tacchi (as the defensive midfielders) should offer them an outer barrier - I have never seen a game like the Depor one, where Depor could run 30 - 40 yards straight at the heart of our defence, with no one from midfield closing them down or even getting near.

It really highlighted how exposed the Juve defence was.
