Messi in the recent past has been a bit plagued by injury but I can see him return decent numbers over a sustained period of time. Cristiano is probably one injury away from dropping those numbers far more drastically. There's no doubting his sheer athleticism though, that's really what makes him a phenom. Rarely will you find a player who combines physicality, speed and strength the way he does, that's what sets him apart, and the CL perhaps even moreso than the Liga suits that style of play. All that said, what happened last night was simply disgusting. AtM deserved it. I cannot believe Oblak.i have never seen a keeper give up the way he did for five straight penalties.

Both teams lacked quality. Real's first half hour was the only time I've seen them play well this season. Atletico have grinta coupled with Griezmann and sometimes Torres, with the odd flash of someone else, but all in all they are just not a top team.

We are so much better than both that it almost physically hurt to watch that game.

That can't be right, EPL participation would be around €120m plus some additional parachute payments if they get relegated which could be around €50m. Hmm... it's around 200m which is a lot for a small club, but you have to consider that payment is over 2 years starting next year.

Parachute payments are likely to rise significantly from the 2016-17 season, however, when the new Premier League TV rights deal takes effect. The £5.3bn domestic rights package is 65% higher than the current deal and the overseas rights have still to be agreed.

From the 2016-17 season relegated clubs will receive 55% of the equal share of broadcast revenue paid to Premier League clubs in the first year after relegation, 45% the following year and 20% in year three. Clubs relegated after a single season will receive 55% and 45% over two seasons with the third payment eliminated entirely.
