And to break the Nesta schooled Messi myth once and for all.

In this footage, either Nesta is forced into fouling Messi after Messi goes through. Or Messi cleanly gets through leaving Nesta on the floor. Say what you want. Thats not how a defender keeps an attacker in his pocket.
Wow, you have found one instance where Messi went past Nesta, but there were half a dozen of situation where Messi has been owned like a little bitch that he is by 37 yo Italian stallion. Imagine Italian stallion in his prime, at the top of his game ragarding quickness, strength, while positioning, reading of the game and tackling were still exceptional. Messi who?

Where has this myth come from that Vidal was good against Real? I was in the Bernabeu for the second leg and he was mediocre, at best.

In the final he was atrocious, worst performer by a country mile.

Since he was sold he apparently had tremendous season and was our most important player during the year. The same bunch that considered his performances mediocre at best only few months ago, some even invoking his sale.

you're lying yourself.. italian stallions left and right and he won trophies like no one else in the current history. and maybe you can stop him in one match, in one juve/milan- barca..but next year he'll win the cl easy as that. and i don't see italians as the best cb nation (in modern history)

No? reading match thread from Madrid and Vidal thread during that period kinda suggests that. Marchisio unsung hero yes. So lets draw our positivity from that we only lost 2.5 key players and not 3.5. Hu-motherfucking-rray

Vidal was crappy in the final, I give you that.
Who cares about match thread and the exaggeration that goes on there?

Seriously Adolf, you need to come back with better stuff.

None suggested Vidal isn't a loss though.Again, don't go to extremes.

I am only merely suggesting we'll cope without him better than we'd probably do with Tevez.

Pirlo wasn't much of a key player last yr.You and I both know that infact 95% of the forum wanted to get rid of the 'liability' asap including u and me.

In a generation where Per Mertesacker has 104 caps

Unless he means the last few years, which isn't even worth forming a discussion about.
let's say 24 . from wc 1990 to wc 2014.

in this perioud italy played 2 wc finals, won one..also played 2 euro finals and lost both.

in the same perioud germany, france, brazil and spain had better performances. don't tell me the 5th country had the best cbs in the last 24 years.

Are people seriously discussing Messi's abilities?

If defenders are so shit these days, why no one bar him and Ronaldo doesn't even come close to their numbers?

Holland starting CB in Wc final 2010-Boris Mathijsen

World class player indeed.

Don't want to get involved in that messi stuff as
It's obvious exaggeration.

Exactly  not sure what he meant by "Modern History" either, even up until 6 years ago, Italy had much better CBs than Germany
I'd argue now that Italy's are still top3 strongest, but there is absolutely no depth, which is an issue which transcends positions. At least there are some prospects now. In between the first three and then the two outstanding prospects there are a bunch of decent-good defenders from 25-33.

Show me a country who has defenders like Maldini, Cannavaro, Nesta, Baresi, Costacurta, Ferrara, Bergomi etc in the last 25 years.

If Messi was a Juve player, they would have called him the greatest of all time by a margin.

And a few years before Gentile, Scirea and Cabrini...

That is not how you judge which country has the best player in a certain position.

Yeah, I think Italy is still one of the strongest in that department, maybe now only Brazil and Germany have better options (I think Italy's CB stocks are now better than Spains)...Romagnoli and Rugani both have huge futures ahead, best defensive prospects for Italy in eons...

Dude, you're insane.

Italy: Baresi, Bergomi, Maldini, Apolloni, Ferrara, Ferri, Vierchowod, Costacurta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Iuliano, Materazzi, Barzagli, Chiellini, Bocchetti, Bonucci, Paletta.

Brazil: Ricardo Gomes, Ricardo Rocha, Ronaldão, Aldair, Márcio Santos, Gonçalves, André Cruz, Júnior Baiano, Roque Júnior, Lúcio, Edmílson, Ânderson Polga, Juan, Luisão, Cris, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Dante, Henrique.

Defence is just one position of a team. It's important, but trying to tie the success of Brazil and Spain in particular to their central defenders is almost preposterous.
