I just watched highlights from the Chelsea - PSG game again. I know people are always hating on David Luiz and Thiago Silva and I know the both of them can let the pressure get to them. But frankly, I've always thought they were great defenders. Strong, agile, technically very sound and great in the air. I'm a huge fan of both. I am glad that they finally rose to the occasion instead of fucking it up again and be a laughing stock.

I don't think anyone has questioned Thiago Silva's ability and quality. He was great for Milan and he's probably one of the best CBs out there.

Luiz on the other hand makes tons of stupid mistakes and it's quite silly that his transfer was so pricy that it ends up like 10th most expensive transfer ever. People are harsh on him imo, some think he's plain bad, which he's not. But he's quite overhyped when you look at his price which is nothing but laughable.

Luiz makes silly mistakes. He seems immature in that he does not always deal well with pressure. Take the game against Germany for example. I am very sure he wanted to do everything to win that game (which is evidenced by his memorable post game interview), yet he looked disinterested during it.

Personally I think that if he would mature a bit, he could be one of the best defenders out there. And his header against Chelsea was just insane.

Going to backwards regions and contracting tuberculosis does have an impact on your ability to play football of course.

TS is wc defender. Always been a big fan of his. Luiz on the other hand has mediocre defensive skills, his positioning is suspect at times, but his ball playing skills are more than decent. Actually of a decent midfielder and currently it seems enough for him to be insanely rated around the globe.

Rated? People are always mocking him. I think David Luiz is vastly underrated, possibly because of the price tag (which was indeed too high).

Nah, he's pretty damn great. I'm not sure if I'd label him as a WC defender nowadays but imo he was one while playing for Milan.

If TC is not a WC defender these days then none are. He's one of the best defenders in todays football imo. Luiz? Luiz is just decent defender.

If I was a coach Luiz wouldn't even make the bench let alone his price-tag when PSG paid what? 50? That was unacceptable.

Two things overrate this man, his hair and the fact that there are no good Brazilian defenders today.

You hate the guy. Fair enough. A lot of people hate him. But he's a very good football player. His image and his price tag work against him and make people like you underrate him.

Take his header against Chelsea for example. It was out of this world. It was Cristiano Ronaldo like. And his free kicks? Pretty fucking great. And Diego Costa? I never really noticed he was playing. No, David Luiz is very very good. But easy to hate.

You know, maybe you should consider that we have CHIELLINI playing there. David Luiz is better in every single aspect of the game.

Yes, he scores once in a while, but that's not the thing you want, look or ask from a defender. You want him good defensively and he's not, and you want him good with the ball and he is pretty okay controlling the ball.

Chiellini is way better than Luiz defensively but can't control the ball and use his brain like Luiz, both players are incomplete but I'll pick the better defensive player.

I don't like Luiz I admit, I also don't like Mascherano for instance but I can admit he's damn good.

Another thing, John Terry for instance scores or has scored this season a lot more than Luiz and is on another level defensively yet after the match Luiz takes credit and Terry on the other hand is mocked which is laughable.

Because Thiago Silva and David Luiz have effectively managed to keep one of the strikers of today out of the game while Terry was beaten by the both of them in the aspect of the game he's supposedly the strongest in.

Understandable, but I know you would still pick Terry ahead of Luiz if you were a coach just like anyone with a vision would.

Luiz is massively inferior when it comes to defending. He's much much better on the attacking side of the game of course, and I'm not going to argue that that's not important for a defender, because it obviously helps the team a lot, but Luiz very often lets his team down defensively.

Never. You cannot build on Terry.

Inferior when it comes to defending? We are about to be knocked out of the Champions League because of yet another defensive blunder of Chiellini.
