:agree: +Rep

Maldini was awesome @ LB. Roberto Carlos got owned repeatedly as well, but it doesn't diminish his stature as a great, or the fact that he had a stellar career.
Roberto wasn't exactly known for his defensive responsabilities was he? They were completely different style players.

As much as I hate Milan, Maldini was great. Super classy defender and person. He could take a loss like a man, not whine about it for years.

They were both LB's. Carlos was more explosive going forward (undoubtedly), but his defensive frailties were masked by his incredible pace and ability to maraud backwards and forwards down that left flank. Maldini was a more classy and elegant LB. He was never as good playing @ CB as he was @ LB, but as a LB he was legendary.

Fuck Maldini.

not at all, just still rubbing me eyes in disbelief that people can be so misguided, and others who can allow to be so easily fooled, and decides to easily skip on them facts just because they don't suit their "agenda" :)
You were easily fooled with that one yourself. :p

Gianluca Vialli has looked ahead to next week’s game between former clubs Juventus and Chelsea, while warned Nicklas Bendtner to keep things simple.

The two European giants will meet at Stamford Bridge on September 19 as this season’s Champions League begins.

“It will be a game between two sides who have points to prove,” Vialli, who won the European Cup with the Old Lady, told Tuttosport.

“Juventus, because they are back in the Champions League after a few years away. Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to re-start without Didier Drogba. The Blues have changed a lot in an effort to be less predictable.”

The Bianconeri have been away from Europe’s top table for a few years and Vialli expects this campaign to be one of consolidation rather than glory.

“I think this season will be one for Juventus to build a base for the future,” he continued.

“However, if there is one Italian side who can do well in the Champions League this term, then it is Juventus. They play with intensity and a propensity to attack.

“They also did some very good work in the transfer market when you consider value for money – Mauricio Isla, Kwadwo Asamoah and Sebastian Giovinco.”

Vialli was also questioned on La Signora’s decision to sign Bendtner on loan from Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

“I think Juventus did well strategically. After understanding that it was impossible to sign a great champion, they were wise in not spending crazy money for a player who would not arrive with the guarantee that the side would take a step up in level.

“I believe that Bendtner can do well if he doesn’t try to be better than what he is. Every now and again he’ll look to do something special, but that is not his job. He should leave that to Mirko Vucinic.

“He should concentrate on his physical ability as a penalty box striker. He can score a lot of goals that way.”

You called him a world class fullback. Just asking you when did you watch him play as a fullback and if you maybe remember some great performance from him as a fullback. When was it, was it in 1988 or maybe 1993, or 1998 or later?
I started watching football in 96, he was amazing back then, he was world class throughout the first half of the last decade too. Never saw a fullback as complete as him, amazing defender, good skill, played with both feet, scored goals, got forward, read the game well, and was an amazing one on one defender.

I remember one time when Roberto Carlos was caught offside, the commentator said "rumour has it that this guy's position is actually left-back".

Sorry if this already posted.

Buffon: "That piece of music? I’ll be glad to hear it again. I’ve had to listen to it from my sofa over these years and I didn’t think that was right.
We have to get back to that certain mentality, that ferocity, of last year."

Lichtsteiner: "Juventus are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am feeling very well here. Moving here was the right choice for me to win something. Winning the Scudetto with Juve last year was something beautiful. However, that’s not biggest thing I can achieve here. I want to win the Champions League now."

Marotta: "We just want to face every game with the same drive shown in the championship, Super Cup and Coppa Italia. One of the tasks that lies ahead for the coaching staff is assessing how to tackle our fixtures in the best possible way, through the prevention of injuries and workload that reflects the sheer number of games. We don’t possess a great deal of experience in this sense, but we can count on the preparation and professionalism of Conte and his backroom staff."
