Forlan can't play in Champions League
Diego Forlan is out of Inter’s Champions League campaign until January, as he is cup-tied.
The striker was signed from Atletico Madrid to replace Samuel Eto’o, but he already took part in the Europa League third round preliminary tie.
As he was on the field against Norwegian side Stromsgodet on July 28 and August 4, Forlan cannot play for another club in Europe until January.
Inter confirmed this with a statement on their official website.
It is a surprise to the Nerazzurri, who had signed Forlan believing he'd be part of their Champions League group phase, but did not properly research his status with UEFA.
The Uruguayan striker was named on the list handed to UEFA and cannot be removed now. It's a particular blow, as Luc Castaignos and Andrea Poli were left out.
