Agreed but while we were just superior to Empoli, Benfica are better and here tactics are more important. What I saw against Empoli was that Kostic and Cuadrado were the main targets when going forward apart from long balls to Kean. When the wingers go up there was always someone covering them like McKennie. Since there was little pressure from Empoli, Locatelli and Rabiot could take up more advanced positions. By using the wings, we made more space in the middle for the CMs to attack.
Benfica play more possession football so we'll be a flat 4-4-2 for the most part. If we're enjoying more possession, that will become a 3-5-2 with Cuadrado pushed up but if Benfica start running through the middle, it's going to be a problem. If so, I expect most play to go through Sandro and Kostic and move to almost a 3-4-3 but it depends on how they perform on the day.
Let's see how it goes, we often can dominate short spells before conserving energy so we just need to be clinical in that period. If we concede first, it'll become open like Maccabi and I'd count on Benfica to score more because I know we miss most of the chances we create.
