A mental block stopped us from even creating chances. Did you see how many times we could've got a good shot away but didn't? I can recall Vidal, Tevez, Pogba and Licht all having good chances to shoot but cocked it up somehow.

At other times, we'd have a free player on the edge, and fail to make a simple schoolboy pass to him.

It's got little to do with World Class AM's or Wingers as much as it has to do with mentality.

We have Tevez, Llorente, Morata, Giovinco and Coman. That's a pretty solid attacking line. It's not real Madrid but enough to bring a steady stream of goals.

And yes, even if they don't sit back against Olympiacos, it still shows they've got defensive weaknesses to be exploited.

When I say mentality, this also includes our Italian coaching mentality. Allgeri could have done many things differently but he can't help his genes.

We struggled, they struggled (because of the defensive qualities). It was a tough game against a strong(er) side and they got lucky at the end.

I think our biggest disadvantage was a bad Vidal. If he played his game, we would be a lot closer to not losing the game/winning the game.

So did Man City, they were very attacking and left lots of space in midfield and around the defence, completely unlike Atlético Madrid.

I am not disputing that, but Roma actually tried to attack. They were more aggressive and took more risks. I guess going behind early might have actually helped their cause as they had nothing to lose from that point on. Man City's shambolic defending and general careless play and lack of organization assisted Roma in their game-plan, but we didn't even have a single shot on target in 90+ minutes. If that isn't the epitome of negative football, I don't know what is.

Good post except the part that I quoted.
You simply can't compare different games with different opponents. Can't even compare same team in different match, example Atletico vs Olimpiacos was having totally different approach than vs Juve.

I am comparing the approach, not the teams or games per se. I would have liked to see a more adventurous and brave Juve, that is all.

I watched highlights, we didn't have a single goal opportunity.

We actually did, was almost an own goal by Atletico forced by Llorente's pressure on the defender but the keeper had to do a pretty hard save.
Having said that, we didn't create much but they are really an awful team to watch and play against.

We have ONE attacking midfielder - Kingley Coman

IMO the two most important positions in the game are central midfield, and attacking midfield because they shape the game.
Central midfielders shape the build up, and attacking midfielders create in the final 3rd. Unfortunately we do not have ONE true attacking midfield threat.

Ultimately, if we want to truly change our attacking style we need to purchase 2 attacking midfielders: One left-footed one and right-footed one.

I can't stand Napoli's current team because Benitez is an idiot that ****s on the Italian game, but he did get one thing right, he bought several attacking midfielders.
I still don't know why we were looking at Falcao are not an attacking midfielder.

If he cant understand why your tactical approach should be entirely different if the opponent is Athletico, or Man city, then there simply is no way you will be able to explain him

That's exactly right. We struggle against European quality sides because we simply do not have any attacking midfielders or wingers that can run at players or put people in through interchanges around the box. Our winbacks can only drive to the endline, which becomes predictable after a while, so then they are forced to cycle the ball back to Caceres or Chiellini, then they either force the ball forward or switch across the pitch. If Llorente had some attacking midfielders or wingers around him, holding up the ball or dishing it on would mean he could be more useful, but in this setup he only has a static options. That's not to say I want Llorente in any setup, but the 3-5-2 is simply easy to shut down compared to other formations with more flexibility.

In Serie A our players often try to do too much in the box and fluff a shot

Licht has like 2-3 'could've shot but passed instead' moments a game in Serie A. I did not see a significantly different Juve last night in the final 3rd, I seen the exact same Juve coming up against a defence infinitely better than what our competition domestically can muster.

Oh and as for the last sentence, do you not think 'World class wingers' would do better in such situations than the likes of Lichtsteiner?

Or would a 'World class AM' not be a better bet to provide proper service to our forwards than a Vidal or a Marchisio?

We can't really compare matches in Serie A to Europe since everyone craps their pants in the former while not being very good to begin with. Even Malmo looks better than the majority of Serie A sides.

Players like Pogba and Vidal are great to have running behind a creative winger or attacking midfielder, looking for opportunities to shoot from distance or put someone else in. That's how their skills are maximized and opens up space for them.

Just look at Bayern for example we created nothing over 2 legs against them same thing happened against Atletico.

The system may work in Serie A because we have the best 11 against who ever we come up against but in Europe this 3-5-2 with our current players has been found out from being shit the last 3 seasons in Europe.

I think Allegri will change the system soon enough for Europe as there are no signs it can deliver us a good result against a top team.

JUst look the price of that Bayern team that time and how much Bayern spends every year and after that we can speak about our strengh.Anyway we were beaten against Bayern 4-0 and Barca was 6-0 .The game against Atletico was way different with that against Bayern. Germans crushed us and we have no chance against them and Atletico scored from one and only shot meanwhile parking the bus on their own turf.So it's no way the same situation.
