The pass of the night was that one Cancelo did in the first half. You all know what one I mean. That’s when I shouted “what the hell was thaaaaaaat”!!!!?

Allegri fuck up was he should have introduced Dybala like at the half not costa at 60 min, when Pjanic couldn't hold the ball we needed players who could help hold and carry the ball forward. Also our pressing was too damn relaxed directly after atletico first leg when he fucked up the same way. The approach should have been 442 away not 433 with a shaky defence specially.

tagliafico's foul on bentancur. clear penalty.

Meh, not a penalty IMO. Bentancur fell way too awkwardly and too late. If they had given it before VAR and then checked maybe it stands, but it isn't too convincing in slow motion especially.

What was the reason in doing that anyway? It's not like we lose Rugani's passing ability if we play him LCB...Bonucci on the other hand can actually make things happen if played RCB. Can Rugani only play on the right or what? Or did we simple try to make it as easy as possible for Rugani?
Sweep/cover CB in between the stopper/marker and the more defensive FB. That's usually how it's set up or what's preferable.

Turn what around? It's a 1-1 away tie, not a loss.

Didn't know till yesterday we play second leg next week already. Otherwise, with Can and Chiellini back, Spin at 100% and DC with more minutes in his legs, not a difficult fixture at home.
People are acting as we lost this 3-0... 1-1 away isnt a bad result... Yes we can do more but its actually a good result..
Lets hope we show up with grit in our home game and finish them off

Except that Dybala is an excellent passer and difficult to dispossess when jogging with the ball, and could be a good addition to pjanic, while Costa needs to be on the move, and at that time we really needed to keep the fucking ball. Also it was a forced sub due to injury. Carry forward... we were collapsing in the mid and Costa doesnt "move it forward", he gets played in offensive positons... which we werent able at that point and sorry but Costa dribbeling 20 meters from out box while we get godpressed isnt really a good idea that a person with a working braincell would suggest.

Playing 433 was a good decision, but Pjanic was disappointing, and Benta lost too much possession. Ajax gave everything, yet had to be lucky to score, and lucky not to get 2 goals at the end of the game when we switched into speedy counter mode.

We seriously need Can back, and fucking Ramsey is gonna be a great purchase very soon when he arrives

Sorry, I meant the tactical approach to the game.

Getting pressed for 90 minutes is extremely risky and we're so lucky that Ajax didn't convert their chances. We made Frenkie De Jong look like Iniesta.

1:1 is not a bad result at all and we certainly have the advantage over them. I just hope we don't get complacent at home with our usual style of playing horizontal passes until the ball gets back to Bonucci and we get pressed.

Even we had our chances but I agree that we need to cope with Ajax press better so hopefully Mandzukic sits on the bench and Kean starts or even douglas costa

De Jong is that good. Will be known as one of the top CMs after he joins Barca.

But your point noted. Yeah we're too passive usually.

They're dangerous on the counter though, and you can slice them open with possession.

Could've been more aggressive with Can but not sure Allegri would've been in first leg.

Must be a different Dybala we watch, recently he couldn't trap a bag of sand. Costa was also (surprisingly) excellent when he came on, but it's not a huge leap to think that technical players will stand out against a team like Ajax. Dybala hasn't done anything of late to earn his place, but I wouldn't bet against him having a say in the home leg. Spaces will appear in the last 30 mins in that game.

Yup except for the 433.
if you are going in there with Max's game plan of not being particularly agressive and the style of play of "sit back and pick your moment" that we presented, it didn't need to be a 433, against a lightning quick team which thrives in midfield. His approach suited more a 532 or 442 so might as well play a formation which suits your game plan OR change your approach. To me 433 was wrong for the game plan he had.

Costa is the best press breaker on the team. You can play him into space and he will outrun the defender. Or you can just give him the ball and he will dribble his opponent. After his first successful dribble, the whole Ajax team dropped way off the next time he had the ball. It buys time in possession because they are scared to jump in on him, so his teammates get a chance to come forward into play.

Let's just hope we wont stop playing at some point in the return leg.

We will surely go out. Two goals can do wonders for Ajax and they easily score.

Agreed...Allegri...the guy just won't go to next gear until his back is to the wall. This worries me alot. He is good at reacting but shit at taking the initiative and taking the game to his opponents..
