Come on now. This is not fair.
What is not fair, Andy? Diego is being deployed behind the strikers, his job is work between the lines. Let us simply describe that role.

The man between the lines has to open space, pull passes behind the defensive lines or to the flanks or try to shoot. Usually this player is a skilled set piece player.

Now let us see what Diego does out of all these.

Each time he receives the ball I see him stuck between two opponent players and extremely rarely he can break through from his marking.

The only successful passes he's made where the ones he passed either laterally or to backwards.

Shooting I haven't seen him do with a Juve jersey.

His set pieces are really predictable.

Now do you still think it was unfair?

Ciro has to realize that 4-3-1-2 is not for us, we leave so much space that I think I haven't seen any other team do such a thing. We should switch to 4-4-2 with melo and diego in the middle and camo and marchisio to the sides. Or just get Edgar Davids and we can play with one man midfield :D

I seriously don't know what should Diego play in 4-4-2 but if the whole plan was to buy him and center our play around him with 4-3-1-2, the coach should see that it is not working and accept it, try to find solutions, and find a better position for him instead of just playing again again with the formation while it is costing us points.

Diego on the bench I suppose...
well if this is the only sultion... I mean would you rather watch Juventus play the same losing formation the whole season just so they won't admit they spend 25 million for a flop or bench Diego if it is necessary and win games. And no I am not saying Diego is a flop, I actually really like his style of play, and want to give him chance to prove himself, so don't be quick to jump on me :lol:

In my eyes, the biggest mistakes Ciro is making is in fielding players that are not 100% match fit.

Yes I understand players need to be integrated and given minutes to regain match fitness but wouldn't it be more logical to leave those types of players on the bench and introduce them if and when needed, say when result is safe?

As we saw yesterday, he had to take off Diego and Zebina for what are presumably fitness issues. Consequently he was left with little room to manuvere. Even if he wanted, he couldn't makes substitutions that could hope to change the game because he only had one such substitution.

Secondly, why is he insisting on fielding Amauri? The guy is clearly off form. With every game he plays and fails to score, his confidence dips even further. So much so that Amauri on the field is practically useless. This when he has Trezeguet on the bench.

Thirdly, the 4-3-1-2. Evidently we are not yet in tune with this type of play. What I find frustrating is that Ciro seems to be sticking with it (at least as the first tactic of choice) independent of the players we have available. Personally i'd like to see us play in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Melo and Marchisio as holding midfielders and Giovinco on the left. I think this way the midfield is more crowded and with three players who have the potential of overtaking opponents (Gio/Diego/Camo) we have more prowess going forward. The bottom line, however, is that Ciro seems to be failing to ADAPT tactics to fit the teams we face. That is a crucial defect.

Finally, I am seeing our confidence as a team drop with every match. We are lacking conviction and do not yet have the mental capaability and team personality to bounce back off a poor result. The draw against Bologna is akin to the draw against Chievo from last season. A team with title aspirations cannot take a slump after one negative result. That would be the biggest weakness we have.

You make it sound like he's been useless all season, and blatantly disregard the fact he's obviously not healthy. That's what is unfair.

Now apart from the Roma game where was his usefullness? I really demand an answer or you should stop saying it were unfair.
He was good against Chievo and Lazio as well, doing what he's supposed to do in creating chances and working hard. Now all of a sudden after a couple poor performances, he's "useless".

It's just amazing, really.

You have pretty much said what I was gonna post.

Starting with a player who isn't 100% fit is not necessarily a bad thing, but playing multiple players who aren't fully fit, is asking for trouble.
Even before the 1st minute of the 1st half has been played, we only have 1 sub left. This leaves him (Ferrara) with very little, if any, possibilities to change our approach.

The signs are indeed worrying right now:
* Predictable attacking moves
* We're relatively easy to break down for our opponents, mainly because of our midfield play (Sissoko coming back may be more important than initially thought.)
* Ciro doesn't seem to read games that well.
* Is he really a great motivator? Time will tell I guess.
* Could the players maybe think of Ferrara as a friend, instead of their boss?
* ...

We will get out of this rough patch though. I remain confident for the time being.
